I play for an English pro team and after the world cup I did some sums,we played 10 games in the prelims and each game cost me personally £60 or roughly 80 EUROS. I DO train or play every weekend and spend most of my spare time with my gun in my hand, unfortunately some members of the team are restricted financially even though they are all great players we cant acheive our potential down to monetary problems.
I dont wanna whine but US teams are miles ahead in terms of sponsorship and available players thats why they SEEM better
OK they are better.
But to all the euro ballers our day will come.
Oh and we did beat the Legion we didnt cheat and niether did they RESPECT.
In a perfectly marshalled world the Russian Legion would be unstoppable(except for the occaisonal STORM flavoured hiccup)

Actually, just in case anyone missed it:

>I was spending over $200 (I'm not rich!) a week on paint so that I could learn how to play a back corner in 10-man on the weekends and drill during the week at indoor to improve my shooting skills. Not a week went by that I didn't play at least two days and my skills improved quickly as a result.

Now tell me that the reason he does well is down to sponsorship, or climate, or whatever...sounds to me like hard work and financial commitment to becoming the best you can be, and I'd be pretty pissed off if I came on forums to find that my hard work was all being put down to some sugardaddy sponsor paying my way to the top.

Typical British disease - we always find excuses, or reasons why we can't do something, rather than reasons why we can.

I did pretty much the same thing for 18 months and went from walk on to playing on a pro team it cost me a lot of money and nobody gave me jack except a large man in Kent (you know who you are)Even now all i get is a shooter and tourney paint and a lovely EXTREME RAGE pack.

But - here is the reason language makes a difference:

If you play on the Philly Americans, you know that if you start to underperform or lose your level, there are numerous players that will jump at the opportunity to play on a big time Pro team.... and thus you are always under pressure: Perform or get cut !

When you play on the Ugly Ducklings, you know that if you start to underperform or lose your level, there are next to no one to take your spot, and as such you can afford to be less stabile in your performance.... Not that players do that conciously, but the lower pressure DOES have a psycological impact !

If everyone in Europe spoke the same language, a team like ours could pick up players from all over, and as such the pressure would be much greater on team player to perform - every time - all the time

Huh ??

off course it makes a difference

but i don't see a valid Difference in your example though

I bet if there were more more Danes playing Paintball on at least AM Blevel u would pick them
and not only because of Language but also out of culture and the fact that the Dane lives closerby, so is easier to practice with,
compared to a DutchGuy who can speak Danish as if it's his native language,

So language takes away communicationbarriers
that's a fact,
but even if we all spoke English or Danish for that matter
u would still most of the time pick guys who live nearby,
and have the same cultural background so prefereably a dane
but if Danes like that are not available
then it becomes a language thing i don't get that

After all
most of us speak english already,
and if u don't speak english
but are an avid Baller u have to learn it if u want
to know what is going on in the PBworld nowadays

Actually, just in case anyone missed it:

and yes spending lots of money
on paint says something about what u a are willing to sacrifice for paintball,
but if u don't have the competition to practice against
and no chance to get better while spending those 200$
then it would only be a waste of time and money

So the Playerpool
is still a big factor to get better and better and to keep growing

Check out Takedown's post...those guys are what, top 8 Am in the US, and he was paying $200 a week on practice paint..show me ONE PLAYER in Europe doing that...

the amount of $ 200 is relative
if an 18 year old guy (still studying) pays 200 euro a month
for his paintballneeds
he might be even making a bigger sacrifice

Twisted hear you mate, loud and clear, annoyingly we could play as much as we'd like if we had more players but for some unknown reson no one wants to join one of the best up and coming AM B Teams:confused:

unfortunately some members of the team are restricted financially even though they are all great players we cant acheive our potential down to monetary problems.
well i guess that's the most common problem amongst teams
and with 7 mans tourney might even be a bigger problem
then with a 5 mans tourney
after all u need 2 more players with the same financial possibilities or commitment to reach those possibilities

and since we have a limited playerspool
it is damn hard to find enough players with the same financialpossibilities

So maybe the prizes to be won in the millenium for example should
consist more off vouchers for travelling and EntryFees

This would help teh sport more then (vouchers for)
paintball products
which u have to sell for a lower price then what the vouchers are
supposed to be worth

So the tourneyprizes should accomodate the players more in their needs
and not to what's cheapest for the sponsors or organizers
