Nope that's not been said actually. Go back and read the whole thread, and next time you get a bit of yr 9 free time on the school computer feel free not to comment.................ever.
The request was for constructive critique.
I already had an opinion about the malaise in the UK Paintballing population and some of the comments here reflected this. I have no problem with the magazine being US focused, as this is where the highest evolution of the game is played. I want to know who done what, and how they did it. Surely if you want to succeed in this "quasi-sport", then you need to look and learn from it's highest level. The techniques employed at this level of the game, understanding and learning these are the only way to improve. Too many Brit ballers are only interested in the game at their local level, or the "I can roll my e-blade at 22 bps, never had to run to a secondary cos I can download 10 pots without movement, so I must be good", school of thought isn't taking the UK game anywhere. Most of the UK posters bang on and on, waxing lyrical about how we Should be a sport, and "oh woe is me, life is unfair". Well can really say that Brit Ball looks like a Sport. It's frikk'in Air soft on Bouncy Castles. Why would the World's premier Paintballing publication choose to focus on what is (at the moment) a stagnant backwater. I mean I don't see Conde-nast Traveller (sp), doing features on Caravanning in Skegness, do you?
I can see the flames brewing a mile off on this one, but I don't care. Yep I do play UK tournaments (as I'm just starting out and everybody's got to start somewhere), but it's not where I wanna be. I can see on the day who finished where, but it's nothing in the scheme of things; I want the Love playing and competing for Millennium Titles (especially after Campaign Cup Disaster), I want us out Stateside kicking asses and taking names (done it once and need to get back in there). If I wanted to know who won series 2k3, or who the current Princess of Punter'onia is there are publications out there for this, but that's not what PGI is about.
Some people only want to play the game at the local level, which is fine, but when you treat it as a once a month hobby, people d'oth protest too much, you can't criticise those wanting to move the "sport" side forward.
Ok so it sounds a bit strong and I will caveat the above. Yes there are UK teams and players who don't play this way and aspire to be world class. Nexus, Tigers at al, but these are the minority. The problem with UK ball is that rather than digging in and getting game alot of people get on their soap boxes and complain about how unfair it is that upstart former colonies are now kicking our asses; rather than doing something about it.
Rant mode off, usual facetious service resumed.
