What is it down to... individual moves, tournament diary of playing with Dynsaty, the ten unluckiest people at this month's psp?
That's a tough question and it may be that I am not in a position to answer it.
When I flick through PGI, or any magazine for that matter, in the newsagents, I will generally use the table of contents to find the various articles and then read the header and/or the first few lines. If I am not grabbed in those first few lines, or something in those first few lines puts me off, then I ignore that article.
If it is clear from either the T.O.C, header, or the first few lines that the article is going to be a report about the NNPL, PSP, NXL, etc then the article doesn't even get read. It's not a matter of the style, content, layout that makes me disregard it, it's the subject matter.
It is of no interest to me purely because it is NPPL, PSP, NXL, in the same way Serie A is of no interest to me in football. I couldn't frankly give a monkeys who wins the Italian equivalent of the FA Cup or who are crowned League Champions and no change in reporting style is going to make me interested enough to read it. My interest is primarily in the other teams I am going to play on a semi to regular basis, the people I am going to meet and the tournament series that I am going to attend.
I've had quite a think about this, hence the slow reply, but the bottom line is that I don't think I can answer your question... I'll continue to think about it, and if I do get "grabbed" by one of the U.S. tourney articles I'll let you know.
Something else occured to me while I was thinking about this, as I started thinking about why I don't read some of the other articles in PGI. One in particular sprang to mind.. Baca's.
Now, he seems well informed, he's usually got something interesting to say, he's fairly level headed, the discussions on here are sometimes very interesting and informative but man, I cannot read his articles.. the style of writing is just.. I can't describe it.. it's just.. ok try this...
As well as looking hotter than Clare Benavides and Keely wrestling in a pit full of chillis while smeared in tabasco sauce, it's got tha dopest features since Hunter took off with his attorney to Vegas armed with only a notepad, the adrenalin of a young child and a trunkload of mescalin.
Now that's TJ speaking and that style really grates on me... Baca's "stylee" does the same thing. Wierd because they both, generally, have interesting or funny things to say but written in their styles, I can't read them.
Nothing against Baca or "TJ" but.. ahem.. tha writin' is mo smack'd than a Tory MP swingin' his thang at a Cynthia Panye look-a-like contest...
