Does TourneyPaintball make good TV anyway ??

unlike most other Televised sports
PB is a game where during a game there are several places on the field where something interesting happens/can happen
(in other sports the camera will show mostly where the ball is the leaders are or the fighter have a go at eachother)

So when when u go and watch PB iRL
u can see things happen all over the field,
but u u decide what u look at determined on where your interest lies
but with camera's u are restricted to what the camera/director will show u
so it will be very hard for a director/producer to make good TV programme, where u can have a nice view/knowledge of what goes on in the field
due to the Highpaced and numerous places where something happens on the field

The Huntington DVD was IMHO a nice effort (images & commentary)
but it still looked like bits & pieces of what happened on the field
So to really make a good TV show out of a PBgame
production costs will rocket skyhigh; meaning lots & lots of camera's good commentary and hours loads of editing
(off course i'm not even thinking about live coverage yet :D)

So this all has to be experimented with and learned from first in order to get some quality show on the Tube which does justice to our game

Only then televised Paintball will pay off for all of us

because if televised XBall really takes off and makes money
i am sure the the NoNXball part (let's say NPPL)
will get some kind of TVdeal aswell since other TV companies will then be happy to jump on the PBonTV bandwagon.

And if there would be an alliance of NPPL & Millenium
travel voucher and/or free registration Fee's for sanctioned tournaments in the series as Prizes are a must !!!!

Or should only the PRO teams benefit from a TV deal,
instead of the complete(Nov Rooks AMs) MILLNPPL alliance.
Just wondering

SteveD, I think we could be homing in on what's needed.

Just suppose we create, for argument's sake something called the World Paintball League.
It has two conferences as you suggest, one Euro (Millennium) the other Yank (NPPL).

For the most part teams will compete in their respective conferences but also have the opportunity if they so wish to travel across the pond to compete in the other series.
Points for all participations count toward an end of year ranking.
Possibly the top 6 results or whatever for each team counting to some end of year ranking.
I believe the format has to be changed also.

The end of year rankings are used to determine which of the top pros go thru to an end of year play off in say Miami, to produce a World Champion for that year.
There are obviously many other details to work out but I think in principle this may be what's needed.

I think both are needed simultaneously.

Nick B has been espousing a world league for years now. I think now we have a good set of circumstances/challenges/opportunites to bring something forth.

A transatlantic promotion alliance (NAPO:p ) + smashingly attractive playing format + the promise of big TV exposure = let's get our asses moving, it has to be MUCH easier to sell now.

Long live NAPO! (call it what you like)

Isnt that what the WPS (World Paintball Series) is? If not, then what is the WPS?:)

Hey Sam, the WPS did not cater for an end of year play offs that is such a central part of any proposed alliance league.
The WPS had no real formal recognition of integration other than 'endeavouring' to have a common rule book and allowing some of the Stateside teams to score points in the Millennium that could count in their own NPPL

Leastwise that was my understanding of it...

Getting Up Again
Production costs, restricted views. camera angles and all the rest have been gone over and over and over. With a taped show, its more than possible to create an interesting game OR show highlights from multiple games.

Live coverage is more than possible - three cameras will do the trick.

In other televised sports, the camera also decides what you should look at. There's plenty going on other than at the ball - you just don't see it most of the time: as an example a pass play in football. The camera focuses on the quarterback as he scrambles in the pocket and then throws. It then shifts to the receiver. BEFORE it shifted to the receiver, he was having all kinds of fun with his defensive opponent, trying to get clear and run his pattern. You never saw it.

In other sports the way the Ball goes decides the game/ score most of the time
so the ball is the main focus most of the time
it isn't that important if the wide receiver made a brilliant run out in the open when the runnig back has received the ball

so

what i meant is that it seems easier (needs less camera's)
to follow people following a ball on an open field
and still being able folow the game

But with paintball there is not just one Ball to follow
there are just kinda 5or7*2 people going at each other on a field with objects obstructing your view

Anyway
I just hope
for a Good exciting TV show that does Tourney paintball justice
and is not only made for paintballers
but Laymen too
so they get curious to play as well

Hopefully all that's possible
with low enough production costs
so there is enough profit for other TV stations to take a chance on other formats as well

because it seems to me that making a TV show is costing more then a DVD an event At Huntington or Touluose

which after all is mostly/only made for paintballers :D

so any chance someone Stateside capping those NXL shows
for us Euros whenever they aired :D

But if the receiver made a brilliant runout, you'll see it when the commentators bust out their white draw-on-the-screen pens during the 25 seconds between plays, even if you didn't actually see it during the play.

Dont' get hung up on the format. That's not the important part.
