2004 - It's Done- Merged

If X-Ball requires a roster of at least 10, which seems to be the general consensus, what do Y-Ball teams need? 14?

Another thing, more seriously--is this theoretical NPPL/Mil connection simply a cooperative effort or is the notion some sort of consolidation? If a consolidation, what's the advantage to NPPL?

Hey, Teej, maybe you could hop onto one of the two PLP teams in California? If Dynasty hops in, you'll have three to choose from!

Dude to cinfidentiality clauses in the contract for Team Axis, I can't say anything about our contra-d'oh!

What's wrong with the way the sevens are ran now? In my opinion, X-Ball isn't the eye candy it's cracked up to be. It's just five man on a sparsely bunkered field. It's pretty at first, which is exciting to watch, but there's no substance beyond that. Any decent athlete can hop in and look just as well as any of the best players, and that's further due to coaching. These guys don't have to think, there's no instinct involved, they really don't even need to pay attention to what's going on outside of what the sideline tells them. I think it's okay for the franchises to have their coaches direct their players, but I think there should be a little more space between the spectators and the players. There's a chess-like purity in the sevens that I hate to see go the way of X-Ball.

1) Coz X-Ball is 5 man and Y Ball would 7 man and 2 x 5 = 10 and 2 .........

2) It would have to be a consolidation for the teams playing Y-Ball, the attraction to the NPPL would be airing a World League instead of just another domestic one which would prove quite difficult if it were just a co-operative effort.

Has this actually been discussed between the Millennium Board (or key members of) and the NPPL?

I can see some real advantages to this, for both sides.

TV wise, you have a much wider audience than NXL Yank ball, effectivly you have Europe, and North America.
You have National Identities to clubs, (not Nations cup style, but like Man U is an english club and Real Madrid are Spanish) which makes for a much more diverse range of teams. You add in Exotic Locations, London, Paris, Moscow, Stockholm, plus killer American Venues like Huntington Beach, and you've got some Awesome Locations!

It also allows the NPPL to hang onto players and teams that might be tempted to go play for an NXL franchise.

I can see this working
IF (big IF)
The Millennium Series and the NPPL are both prepared to gamble this time.
And if this is going to be successfull, it needs to be run by a proper structured organisation, not just the promoters.

That merger would be a very good idea, and someone (who nkows high up people) should get on to the organisers of the leagues and suggest it to them.

Another one of the benefits to this would be the increased financial backing to this, Maybe even opening up the use of bigger & better grounds, and a big league wil interest people into letting out their premises, one place near me is tatton park, which hosts a lot of big events over the year, like the classic car show tommorow, which is expecting 60,000+ people.
