The old saying goes "opportunity maketh the thief".
Many honest people have fallen prey to blatant temptation. People have to take responsibility for leaving high value items lying around unguarded around a bunch of people they do not know. Paintball is no different to every other scenario you have to protect yourself and your property in.
Word.

All the suggestions so far revolve around event organisers stopping people from stealing kit......that is left around unsecured and often in big tempting heaps. If you want to keep your bits, it comes down to you to secure them, and there are ways. I'm no criminal (;) ) but when I see a table with seven DM6's stood proudly on their stands I must admit to naughty thoughts, just too fat and lazy to run off with anything.

Well I reason that whether they were playing or not on sunday, they have played before, and have probably played tourney or been in the scene, they stole an ego which is one of the more valuable markers. They knew what they were looking for.

it's not just one of those things you can walk into off the street it's a field in the middle of nowhere, they have probably played at the Masters before to know the layout, know where the kit was left etc

so it's not good enough to say 'I saw some random chavs walking around'. It probably was a player :(.

Do we have the serial numbers of the stolen markers, & which was the other marker stolen, we know about the ego what was the other one?

Asked my mum who's a copper about it, first question was does it have a serial number, second was is there some kind of register for markers?
Most markers have a serial number do they not?
But no register
next question was what could be done to stop it from being sold on, the answer was put the word about one has been stolen & to be suspicious if you see one for sale.
I don't know what the recovery rate is for stolen markers, but I'd say it ain't gonna be good unless you are lucky and they are stupid (I hope so).

We need a register, I know when I bought my Speed I registered it online somewhere which asked for it's serial number & a description & my address etc, there should be one for all markers & people should be able to look at the register & track a marker to see who owns it currently.

Your right it probably was a player but If you'd have seen these chavs maybe you would think otherwise :D they were dirty.... and i mean real dirty chavs, and to me it seemed quite obvious that they werent with anyone and that they had just shown up when i saw them walk in. But i may just be predjudice against chavs... it has been known :p.

Hmmm, dirty horrible looking Chavs huh, I don't blame you for suspecting them, but if there are some disgusting, gut-wrenchingly filthy looking Chavs around, doesn't that make people EVEN MORE stupid for leaving high value equipment lying around when they can see that the dregs of humanity are 'in the house'. I mean, you lock up your bike, using a bike chain, so why not use the same chain to safeguard your gun? What do they cost? $8? Less?

All this 'paintballers are one 'loved up' community' **** doesn't wash with me. There are scumbags everywhere, and I know enough of them in UK paintball to last me a lunch hour. To be a profitable scumbag it is necessary to make yourself appear 'nice'. That's the art of the short con, which is what every scumbag is looking to play.

after reading the last few posts, i agree with olly and co, that it shouldn't be down to the organisers to look after the security of peoples equipment, like you dont park ya car outside a pub and expect the landlord/bar stuff to patrol the car park! slightly different but the point is the same! its ya own equipment and you have worked hrd to get it so keep it safe and with you!!!! security starts at the owner!!!!

The opposition to that might be that it will push new players away if the registration is complicated or costs (that dirty word again) money :(.
