As for the issue at hand the problem is not the fact that it's really the fault of the parent but rather the fact that the bloody media will invent a story around it and we've got to pre-empt any possible backlash against paintball

Hi guys the facts are we have a nation of parents some are very good some over protective and some dam right don't give a F$£" as long as thier kids are out form under their feet.

We have to protect our sport and it's future from these individuals as we have seen this year the media twist the facts.

Untill the goverment tighten up the maufatures aren't going to help with this one and if we had colledge paintball here or stricter laws we would not be having these problems. Or possible problems.

We all love our sport thats why were here play ball and some of us live it. Kids will be stupid mother won't always care It happens deal with it.

The media will always be the best creative writters out there been there done that ..............

We don't have to like it but we are in a position to do some thing about it paintball is still small enough.

Tell me why no colledge ball here why no schools clubs I have read about and spoken to young americans about it so why ?

You tell me?

Yorkie is doing his bit afre being nagged to death for a year by his kids. I launched the accdemy and run god knows how many very safe educational games of kids paintball a year:eek:

Just for the record, I shall let you all into a little sectret here I spent 4 years as a school govenor. Yup it's true.

Our edcation sytem dose not like the kids doing risk stuff they are still paying for the cliff incedent god how long ago was that 16 +, years ago.

Crooked Poo you have a very valid point every one is responcible for their own actions, sadly it's some thing that gets over looked far too often these days. You can analize and intulectlize any given stiation as to why some one has behaved in a certain manner. But the buck stops with the indivdual, they made a choice. The sooner we all take a step back from this and take on board the recponsiblty that comes with our actions the sooner the world will be a better place.

I dout this will happen but those of us who care can all do some thing about it weither its taking paintball mags to work and showing our colleges there is so much more to it.

Helping add weight to the UKPSF just by joining or acctually getting off your arse and trying to really make a diffrence.

People don't like the boat being rocked no one likes change but if this trend increases some thing is going to have to be doen and soon rather than later.

Just take gun clubs as every one is quoting fire arms regulations would we all wnat our markers to have to be kept at our local site?

I for one would not and I dout any oother site owner would either! it is getting harder to legally keep guns and in the same breath more people are getting shot.

Ultimatly the mother is at fault here a 12 year old should not be messing around with a potenially dangerous object.

If we can't get registration going should we be trying to make paintball more acessable in a safe educational formate.

What are you veiws if you felt strongly enough to post what do you personally think we could do and what can you see your self having done about it in a years time?

3 years ago next month I wrote my first paintball article (yes it was spellchecked and proff read) My point is it was about helping make paintball more accessable for kids and getting more young blood into the sport. I have done it and I am very proud of them all even if they do have their moments.

Food for thought sparklie

I have played a few tournies and seen a few good players under the age of 17. these guys have already got a lot of kit, it seems unfair that they are playing a game they love one weekend and the next they are not allowed cos some kid was too stupid to use the proper safety equipment.

Keeping the markers at the local site would cause all sorts of problems, what if your marker is broken, you get the part required to fix it but have to go all the way to the site to fix it. what if you want to play a tournament ? can you only play at the local site ? People won`t feel secure leaving their £1000 marker down site with no security or no one there 5 days of the week.

Kevin this was exactly my point and I am not advocating we make it harder for younger player to get in to the sport have you not read my ok "rant" at all.

What I am advocating is that we as player of a sport we love tighten things up a bit so nasty stuff is less lightly to happen, we have to cover our respective arses here.
Sadly this is the climate we live in inosent till proven gulity my arse we will get closed down if enough fuss is made. So why not prevent it happening or at least make safe paintball more accessable.

I am only thowing in this comparrisoum to make you think it's the way gun clubs have gone it dose not nessarly mean I agree with it, read what I have written!

What I did ask was what as a comunity of individuals did you feel you could or would do about it ?

I have my own idears some of which are already implemnted some on back burners but I am doing some thing about it :)

The press always explain things to make them more dramatic, especially here in the UK. They should be made more accountable

On that side line up above, the lady who sued macdonalds, had to admit part liability she spilled the coffee. However macdonalds had kept the coffee way above the temperature recommended and required, and when she had spilt it, instead of discomfort or light burns, she suffered 3rd degree burns!!! She won because macdonalds had coffee that was dangerous to spill, thats why she won, not because she was taking the p*ss. The final amount was also reduced by the judge I think you will find if you look into it... A lot of these things are exagerated on the net, and often are turned into urban myths of a kind

Lets not forget also that paintball is actually a statistically safe sport, safer than many mainstream ones....

OMFG Why the hell are they selling that stuff?

Sure goggles are provided but what little kid is gonna wear something like that?

Argos sucks for selling that.
Toy safety? MY ASS.
Whats safe about some punk kid shooting at somebody's face?

Im hearing (around where i live) the kids of the neighbourhood are wanting these things after i mentioned 'paintball' in a convo with my mate.
(my fault :( )

Now they told their mums about this and if they go out and get one of these and then get injured...... is my ass gonna be kicked or what?

Does the UK have a protection body for paintballers and the use of their markers? like the one in the USA?
Its similar to the gun rights of owners.

Do we have one?
If we dont we definitely need one. :(

It is recomended u r over 17 to purchase a marker but their is no law that i know of for it! Look at those glasses argos give u though how cheap r they? they rnt going to protet u from all angles or infront even though the guns r set @ under 100fps like sparkie said. I dont want their 2 b laws saying u ave 2 b 17 to own a marker alright 2 buy because i am a coming up 16 year old paintballer who has already bin kicked out of a job marshalling because of an insurance crack down which told the company to make all their marshalls 16.

Toy???

As well as knowing a bit about paintball I am now looking into "toys"!!!!!!!!

I can confirm that it was not a paintball marker that has caused the alleged injury it is a "paintball gun". I use the two methods of identifying the weapon as I have had a very long conversation with the trading standards officier who is investigating the incident.

It is a paintball gun sold by toy stores - the same gun that I spoke to a "customer services" person from a well know toy retailer several moths ago and was told it is a toy - it has a CE approval and therfore is OK.

The "toy" is under investigation now, I have offered the UKPSF support to the trading standards office. I have explained the rules governing paintball markers and how we self regulate our sport. I have also offered the knowledge and use of chronographs so they can check if this "toy" does exceed the maximum kinetic energy of a projectile fired by a toy. Yes there is a limit. The bottom line at present is the "toy" has a CE approval. It also contains the required warning if the projectiles exceed the max level allowed. (This is strange situation - if it exceeds the level you add a warning to the box and then get the CE approval)

The trading standards have offered to keep me informed of the tests etc...

They are aware that this is NOT a paintball marker as used by sites and players they are investigating a tragic accident with a toy gun.

Personally I would ban these "toys" but there are also blow pipes on the market firing paintballs and darts, these are just as dangerous and don't come with masks. Next it will be soft air and replica guns but it is good to see that the soft air players are looking at codes of practice and regulation an an attempt to keep their sport safe.

Marker registartion is a good idea, but the resources are not in place for the UKPSF to do it (at present) There could be movement along these lines so wait for the next issue of the WORD.

On that point where are the articles - I can't send blanks spaces to the members.

Free lanyard with the next issue (well possibly)
