On the point of the masks thingy these masks are basically lab glasses that have been chucked in the box with the marker by the manufacturer. Thes glasses aren't what you would call "cool" so maybe if the manufacturer made some proper "cool" goggles that kids wouldn't be embarresed to wear then that would maybe alleviate the problem?!?!?! By the word cool i mean goggles that look like nvader's or brass eagles. This way the company could hike up their prices making the toy more expensive, Earning them more money and making the parent think twice about buying this toy.

well that's me done.

10 yo boy yadda yadda...

Noooo!! NO licensing for paintball markers!! Kids will ALWAYS fool around without safety gear, have you never seen kids joyriding or dirtriding on motorbikes and scooters without helmets, especially at this time of year! How old is the helmet law?? And why is no action being taken against the mother for supplying an air weapon to a sub-14 year old without close supervision??(I haven't read about this, after this posting I'm going to the Daily Moan archives...) People will always act like jerks with stuff, no matter what it is cf. Hungerford, Dunblane, Lockerbie, Bhopal, Camelford, the list is endless...

Anyway, if licensing was introduced, I probably wouldn't be able to play anymore 'cos I've got a record for firearms offences. I'm responsible with my marker, I even keep it in a gun safe 'cos I share a house, but how do you tell the Law that?

I know where you're all coming from, but I don't reckon licensing is the answer...

Victor, I have to say I don't agree with you. Just because kids have a tendancy to mess around with dangerous stuff doesn't mean we should let them get on with it. You use the example of kids messing around on motorbikes without crash helmets etc. Thats not any reason to ignore it and say "Boys will be boys". Especially when it comes to things that have the potential to injure others as much as the user.

I agree that the mother has a lot of responsibility in this issue, but to a degree people need to be protected from themselves - eg laws against drinkl driving, not wearing seatbelts etc.

I don't think licencing is a bad thing - sure it would be more hassle than the current situation, but I think that the sport may be heading that way. Paintball markers are capable in inflicting very serious injury on people (especially tourney markers at 300fps, 16+ bps). So why should paintball get away without an official licencing body? Self regulation is ok, until there's an accident, then the credibilty of whole system is thrown into doubt. I'd much rather pay a small amount to licence my markers (or do it for free through UKPSF membership) than for the government to decide that they will regulate it themselves after a 14 year old blinds his least favourite teacher.

Anyway, thats far more than I was going to write but there you go.
