Is £4 in every £100 really worth the hassle, or the risk? Not to mention the time you'll spend trying to get it sorted.

Am I correct in assuming that it is the seller that pays the 4%?
Thus it is either them being a) too tight to soak up 4p per £, b) they are too stupid to add 4% to their selling price, or c) they are actually trying to stiff you (or are not confident in their product/item).

Of course, its been a while, and I'll probably be informed that i've got it the wrong way around, although i've payed direct into people's bank accounts before, because I'm that trusting (read stupid).

i have been using paypal since 2004 and i got use too the 4% business. all i do is add £1 to my postage fees and there you go.
how much do people spend on postage these days.

had some guy in the Que at the post office tonight who obviously is and eBay power seller due to the roller suitcase full of parcels. he said to the lady behind the counter that he adds £4 to the postal prices so he makes more on the postage than the items he sells.

how many people are reporting that the are being ripped off?

it is the seller that will be hit by a 3.4% + 20p charge (rounded to 4% on here generally)

to avoid actually paying this the norm for the seller is to get the buyer to add 4% to the listed sale price.

people are trying to save 4% (as either buyer or seller) by personal payment owed as there is no paypal fee for this, but as such no paypal protection either.

personally i can't see why people can't just list the price including the paypal charge in the first place as it is the way most payments are made.

it's not like on ebay you can turn round and add 4% to the final sale price.....

I'm looking at your sales thread now lump.... Can i trust you. Exactly. I make the decision on who i'm buying from. If i'm selling i should hope that everyone trusts me and i'm not going to disappear overnight.

I'm sorry it's going to have to be no.

If it goes pear shaped, i'll send the boys round. Bon sharpen the pitch fork and prepare your torches

I voted yes but it is really down to the buyer, I favour the yes as I nearly got done by it.

The 4% paid by the buyer or within the sellers selling price is what I think is best.

The buyer has protection and so does the seller if shipped to a confirmed verified address, this could of changed now but I am sure the seller also has protection from this aswell.

But as a buyer I would always go with the 4% fees option unless..

A) It was a seller I had traded with several times before with zero hassle

B) An inexpensive item - less than £10

As a seller I'd always give a buyer the 'paid goods' option, provided they covered the 4% fees

Quite easy really:

Sellers, state the amount you need to receive in your paypal account!

Buyers, choose your method of payment, add fees if you want to have the extra protection!

Mods, don't get involved in disputes where the buyer chose to make a payment owed/personal payment. Its enough that you do what you do, you don't need to help people that don't help themselves.

Everybody, take a look at the paypal terms and conditions to see if, by paying as a personal payment/payment owed, or accepting these methods of payment, you are complying with their rules!

Maybe make it a rule that sellers have to offer both options of Paypal payment but if paying via the 'normal' method the buyer has to pay the fees.

ps - www.ppcalc.com is a useful tool to work out how much to charge the buyer to ensure you recieve the correct amount. Saves all that maths nonsense!!!

I already voted no in this poll.

But I can see in the classifieds alot of sellers are requesting paypal owed.

I dont think thats the right way to do it, because newbies wont really know the situation and will get caught out.

The people interested in saving a few pence are probably the people who need the paypal protection most of all.

So I want to change my vote to ban sellers asking for payment owed it in their listings, but dont ban buyers choosing to use it for trustworthy purchases.
