The thing is, HPA tanks don't fail in a manner that they get PROPELLED anywhere. If you have tank shrapnel in your hand (steel tanks) or lacerations from carbon fiber, then you have a tank failure. Tanks that fail BURST, releasing their energy in lots of directions at once, but not flying anywhere in one piece. If the tank is a foot into the ground, that means you basically had a hole in the tank that created thrust, which means you had a failure in the regulator or where the regulator screws into the tank.

Good job all you internet geniuses have given me all the knowledge I wanted about whether to use my stako....

Lets decide whether stakos should be banned when tests have been carried out by experts, not by summing how things may have happened in a post of an internet forum.

I gave up reading back at page 11, but the general comments about the bottle itself being fine and not being the problem is wrong in my opinion.
If I buy a Stako with a reg fitted for £ x amount, in my mind I'm trusting the manufacturer and retailer that I'm purchasing something that isn't going to blow me up. Bottle or reg at fault.

If there was any risk that people were saying the bottles are fine, but the regs some are being fitted with aren't up to standard, then why would anybody with half an ounce of sense use one?

I think everybody should let the people in the know do their thing and try to find out what caused this, one thing I know for sure is that I never want to be anywhere near another tank exploding. The **** that went down yesterday was unreal and was down to sheer luck that nobody was killed.

Personally I think anybody who was there yesterday and own a Stako saw enough to make their own minds up on the matter.

I'm just glad Nige is still here to tell the tale because that could have turned out a whole different way.

Which works out well as long as the experts are all people from within the sport who have an interest in keeping things running and making a living and will take the necessary measures to make sure this keeps happening.
Every time one of these incidents occurs it increases the chances of those bodies outside the sport that monitor health and safety stepping in and investigating themselves, especially if someone is badly hurt. If that happens do you really think the people who ban everything in the name of safety will worry about a few paintballers having to find something else to do on Sundays? One way of reducing the chances of changes being made we can't undo is to police ourselves, it's an approach that has worked thus far with the Home Office re fire modes and markers remaining legal in the recent wave of knee-jerk gun like items bans, so if there is even a potential problem with a product then are the few ounces saved worth the grief that could have ensued if someone had been stood a little closer or had the bottle between their legs, under their arm etc?

I'm confused. You want people who are biased in favour of paintball to run tests? I'd rather stakos be deemed unsafe and banned than having people who want light bottles to run the tests.

We have already established that as a whole, the paintball community is seriously under-educated when it comes to handling High pressure air systems.

But one thing that you can't rule out is that as the sport grows and we continually gain more participants the frequency of this happening is going to increase unless measures are put in place (EDUCATION) to stop it from happening. Im not ruling out the stako bottles in terms of liability, but maybe they just happen to be the most commonly used bottles in Europe so chances are if its going to happen its more likely to happen with one of them.

Weird comparison, but as a motorbike rider I am something like 75% more likely to be knocked off my CBR 600 by a Ford Focus than any other car!! :(
Just the law of averages.

Apparently Pball is now the 4th largest extreme sport in the USA let alone the rest of the players in the world, we have now over taken snowboarding in terms of regular participants and you consider what lessons you have to take before your let loose on a mountain!! and thats just to protect yourself.
