Here's what I did

At 32 I hit 16.5 stone and was just squeezing into a size 36 waist and believe me it was tight !!.

at 35 im now 11 stone and a 28/30 waist. Hers's how I did it:

1. I cut out all takeaways, cooked all my own meals so I knew what went in them. Good portions of good food

2. I cooked less food, You will always eat what is on your plate (you cant help it)

3. I ate my food slower and so Im told it takes you stomach 20mins to tell you its full ( could be rubbish but I did it )

4. I started drinking plenty of water with my meals, This again helps you feel fuller when eating.

5. I stopped eating once I felt full. I left what was still on my plate but you soon adjust how much you cook (was hard to start but got easier)

6. (This is the killer) I had support from my Girlfriend who helped me all the way and encouraged me. I Weighed myself once every 2 or 3 weeks so I could see the weight comming off (dont do it every day)

This worked for me and good god I feel better for loseing 5.5 stone and it's stayed of just by keeping healthy eating. I enjoy a beer and a curry/kebab/pizza or whatevere in moderation.

Just my story, feel free to flame me but it worked for me. Good luck and dont give up

An island in the rain
... i lost 16lb in 10 days and wasn't hungry once.
I think a lot of it is down to the mindset that the person is in. You were obviously getting along really well with whatever you were doing, but weight loss that rapid is probably a bit of a shock to the system (still, fair play to ya!). Many people feel the compulsion to keep eating, or they feel the need to indulge in food for whatever reason. Unfortunately it's probably a bit of a vicious circle in that if you live on a poor diet, you become more lethargic and less active and perhaps feel the need to comfort eat. Or people eat because they're bored, as they're not active. Or make excuses to eat crap as they don't have the time to eat properly or sit down for even just 15 mins to have a descent meal.

But once you start yourself on a good regime of varied and nutritious food typical to what Mario has written, and not all this processed nonsense it gets the ball rolling as you do have more energy and you become more active. Therefore generally your probably happier and don't eat out of boredom or whatever.

Ones attitude towards their diet is so important. And it doesn't matter how fat you may feel, what you've eaten in the past is of no consequence now. If you want to be healthier and lose weight then use some common sense, start eating sensibly, drinking less alcohol, lots more water and get yourself into gear.

(I'm talking probably more towards the younger generation here Gups, I realise that the human body does change a lot as it ages and we have to adapt - I also totally agree with Mario's last comment, but I still believe a lot of the same principles apply.)

Congrats mate, thats really good going, and i wish i had your conviction.

I put on a couple of stone in the last couple of years and now weigh 14 stone, ive managed to lose 6lb in the last couple of weeks by getting on the treadmill and curbing my diet slightly, though its not coming off as fast as id like.

I could do a forum diet though :D
