Bench!

Tom37

Better Than Tom36
im not trying to be the best at bench, dont get me wrong, i just feel like bieng a bit competitive...

im generally just doing flat bench and the butterfly things at the moment, and incline only ocasionally. i s'pose whats really brought this on is that i cant bench as much now as when i was late15/early16, and im almost 18... so i need to start training again, and an rm1 of 100kg seems like a good target:)

Robbo, you feeling ok? Or were you not applying this statement to yourself? :D

I'm feeling fine thanks Beanbag because at the very least, I did once achieve being the best at something whereas the vast majority do not, and so I might well be a hasbeen but I can be quite happy knowing I'm not a neverbeen :)

Mooching round the 50, with the flag
ive just found out that a guy i knew a few years ago, of roughly the same build, can bench 100k.... and im not happy (especially as he was a cocky little sh!t). so basically i need to boost my bench in the next few months (by 35k) so i dont feel physically inadequate

i spoke to someone a while ago on here, and they said that they could help, think his name was john(something) and remember bieng surprised with his results. anyone got any suggestions on training stuff? good protien shakes (no creatine etc please, as ive heard a few horror stories about that), diets? whatever, i dont really care about bulking up, just the strength aspect... can anyone help me? please:)
get over it mate, who gives a sh*t what 'this guy you once knew' can bench????

I think the main thrust of arg's argument (that sounds funny to me  ) was to be happy with yourself. You have nothing to prove to anyone by benching as much as this guy...

your mom never tell you if you had nothing constructive to say, then dont say anything at all? f*ck off.
Now, now, Tom--play nice otherwise your thread will go bye-bye.
The fact is you're not gonna get any substantially useful advice here except for the one to go to a reputable establishment where you can feel reasonably confident the instruction isn't utter crap. Well, that and mine, of course.
For starters you don't build mass or strength based off sets of 15 anything. That's blithering twaddle. (Sorry, no-infernomark, but it is.) Beyond that there are numerous ways of doing the basic pec-related lifts as well as the proper way to hold and position yourself relative to the equipment and very few--and I do mean very few--people get it right including those who lift regularly.
So do yourself a favor and relax. Then go to a decent gym and get started.

If you do gradually harder sets of weights then you will quickly build to it.

If your max is 65kg atm do; 10x 45, 8x50, 6x55, 4x60, 2x65 or something like that. Starting with a few reps on a light weight, then less reps and more weight. I have been doing that for a while so i start on 60 take it up in 10kgs so we end up on 2x 100kg which is a hell of an effort which is what u want.
