@Robbo I'm one of @rewind 's teammates and did actually go to the recent prison game, and have been to the Zombieland event as well.
With regards to believing everything that Tim says, anybody that has been to one of his games should know that this isn't possible. My experience has been that there is always something that has been touted that remains undelivered. Upon booking my Zombieland ticket I was told by some of the team to only expect 70% of what was promised in the event promo (70% was probably over selling it).
As @rewind mentioned, the team tries to avoid the politics of paintball, and enjoy getting out and having a good time. Personally, the only reason I went back to Shoreline is the fact that they "try" to put on games in unusual venues, paintball in a prison sounds amazing, right? Unfortunately try is the key word there. I personally found the Prison game to be a shambles and won't be giving them any more of my custom.

To summarize a few things from the weekend in Shrewsbury:
We had to be there between 9 and 9.15 or they'd lock us out. The first game didn't start until around 11:30-12:00.. There was a LOT of waiting around
As mentioned, there were no boiler suits. As you've all seen in the E-Mail, this was for a "funny" reason. What that appears to have been is that they were too thin to play paintball in, there was mention of the paper decorating suits. It really doesn't take a genius to know that these would be too thin and should never have even been considered.
The food was badly organised; the queues took forever, and the food and portion size wasn't all that (though I will concede I'm quite greedy)
The "Anthrax" sponsored player party with free beer and hotdogs had nobody from Anthrax and a token for one piss weak stubby and accompanying hotdog. The implication of free drinks was bandied around multiple times, and in hindsight seemed rather disingenuous.
The band booked for said party didn't materialize. Apparently they messaged Tim 10 minutes after they were due to be there, make of that what you will...
The games were on the whole rather ****e. 4 of the eight games involved capturing various objects whilst fighting various factions in a game area of wide pathways, with barely any obstacles. Choke points were the 90 degree corners of the various prison buildings. In essence the teams would quickly spread out to the various choke points and then spend 20-30 minutes getting nowhere. It would have been very easy to come in the day before and erect temporary barricades to make areas worth fighting over, but they didn't.
The one game that actually took place in the cells was incredibly dangerous. The smooth vinyl floor quickly become more slippery than your local ice rink, and I watched several people come down a flight of stairs and then fall heavily when they reached the vinyl surface. No idea how people weren't injured, luck more than judgement.
Tim made the point multiple times that it was specialist paint, designed for playing in sensitive venues. I can only assume this was stated for the benefit of the site owner. It was Cactus, in a yellow coloured box if anyone knows it?? Generally quite misshapen, LOTS of bounces, I wouldn't use it again.
There were 6 staff total. 4 refs... and 2 doing food (one of which was Suzy, probably shouldn't have been surprised to see her there) for what must have been 130 odd people. Nowhere near enough staff.
We had been explicitly told in the player pack that there was a 6bps limit for those with tourney marker, but on arrival Tim mentioned older markers that couldn't be adjusted could be used.. There were definitely players there that took it as carte blanche to not bother changing anything. 10 bps vs something magfed, or pump when there is 0 cover is utter BS.The lack of marshals meant that guns seemed to not be checked (they were Chrono'd at the start of the day, but that was it and it was fairly loosely done).
On leaving the venue, paint had definitely made it over the wall and had peppered the adjacent streets. Again, it was complete luck that nobody was hit. That would have made for some interesting lawsuits.

For a TL:DR version.
Shoreline games are badly organised, overpriced and not worth the time invested.

On a side note. The highlight of the entire thing was the prison. The tour from the ex-guards was great. They shared funny anecdotes, interesting history and painted a bleak picture of what life inside would have been like. If you're ever in that part of the country I'd recommend giving it a go.

^^^ That report is exactly what I heard off another person who attended the game. Unfortunately, Shoreline sponsored teams are told to "say it was amazing, best game of the year" and are not allowed to say anything constructive or negative.

I find it highly doubtful they are actually told to say that by tb,but it's more than likely they say only positive things out of loyalty to there team, sponsor or friends.
The last thing most of them would want is to be ostracized by the rest of the group or team for saying there true feelings on any of shoreline's events and end up being alienated by the hardcore members,(which has happened numerous times before) they more than probably have learned from other examples just keep there mouths shut if they don't like a tb related event in case it causes upset within the group.

I know their marshals are told not to say anything bad about games, or things that went wrong. If they do say anything ie mention a problem with slippy floors they are told to delete it and not talk about the 'behind the scenes stuff'. So if he is telling them that, you can be sure he'll tell his 'sponsored' teams to not say anything negative about it and if you have a problem "speak to him direct" which results in ridicule and being fobbed off.

@OgreDan @outkastmike

Dan, first off, many thanks for taking the time out to write the post above, it's a lucid account of the weekend's state of affairs. I think all of us who've contributed to this thread in one way or another would have suspected or indeed predicted the debacle you've just commented upon but when someone as yourself comes on and tells us what really happens, it gives others a first-hand account of barnett's events.

It's all well and good myself posting what I think of barnett and what should be done about him but it's only when guys like yourself [and many others in this thread] post up their experiences with barnett that will eventually tip the balance.

One of the major confusions, for me at least, is the reason people still do business with him - I'm not talking about his customers here but his industry associations.
Dan's post above is probably the most damning indictment of the way barnett now runs his events, it's both obvious and inevitable that someone will eventually get hurt; as to whether he has adequate insurance to cover that eventuality, time will tell.

For those associates who remain doing business with barnett, it must be getting close to the time when these companies must now be asking themselves:-
'Do we really want to stay involved with someone who is conducting his business in this way'?

It really is gonna be guilt by association when the sh!t hits the fan - so many problems have now been reported on, even the most ardent of industry associates [sables] must be getting worried about when that slippery floor causes serious injury or when the event had too few marshals or when the liability insurance for these events is checked or when barnett does a runner with the prepayment monies ...

All of these possibilities are now probabilities and the question needs to be asked:- What sort of company can afford to stay associated with someone who so flagrantly flouts health and safety, insurance cover and customer welfare ??

It's all well and good texting me with, 'Oh, you were right Pete all along, he did me screw me over' ...but if you delay [for whatever reason] then you risk being associated with something you really don't wanna be connected to, in any way.
And if you persist dealing with a crook like barnett, then to a degree, you're gonna be tempting fate, and trust me, something will happen.

And when it does, this thread will explode with condemnations from across the board for both barnett and sables and of course, any others still doing business with him .....

The UKPSF has a Code of Conduct for game promoters. Barnett threw the towel in with the federation and created one of his famous internet drama's over it, pretending that the federation had been over run by shoreline haters.

I was the Vice Chairman at the time and I consider Health & Safety to be of paramount importance to all paintball operations. Another reason for tim wanting me out.

The truth is Tim Barnett and Shoreline allow dangerous acts, acts that result in pure negligence, so his time was limited as the federation will not support fools. To a baller, H&S may be a boring subject, never the less a company cannot fail to ignore what is the law. The Prison game could have resulted in an injury, not only to a player, but to a member of the public. What would have happened if one of those stray paintballs had blinded and innocent member of the public?

How would that had reflected on paintball community and industry?

Ballers have the right to be selfish, ignore paintball politics, but they don't have the right to hurt innocent people.

The Barnett's are useless at running a games, they oversell the events, they lie to the customer base, bully them and openly put people at risk of injury.

In my book that is the definition of a ****e company.

I think we need to contact the next owner/management of any "special venue" he attends and notify them about his cowboy antics. They should ask to see his valid insurance cover, and his RAMS. I hold a diploma in H&S (NVQ L6). I would be happy to assist and represent any venue owner that Shoreline has approached in validating the H&S and RAMS for FREE.

Spread the word. Shoreline and the Barnett's need to be run out of paintball.

Why didn't you do it with the last one?.

I wonder why Bod asked that really - surely the main point would be that someone is willing to get pro-active about barnett - I've witnessed many, many people, not just players but people in our industry who know full well what barnett has been up to but didn't want to get involved ... some of them were more than willing to place ammo in my marker knowing I'd go do some barnett shooting [which I'm kinda ok with] but I'm just glad someone else is prepared to help with the dirty work.

And by the way, when I refer to getting pro-active, that includes posting on here; in my mind, posting one's thoughts or experiences concerning barnett is one of the best forms of a pro-activity.

It's when people don't even wanna go on record that tends to get my goat ... they may have had some really bad experience with barnett or have been to one of his events where something bad has happened and yet they still stay silent ..... I just can't understand it when that happens .

I have to ask a question here and this goes out to the game organizers.

Now, I work within the Insurance industry and am fully aware of H&S and all that is associated to it. My question is the following, if you own your own site you Should have Insurance and have carried out adequate safety checks as this would need to be checked if a claim were to occur, if its your own site and you dont have the cover then you are a fool but thats another story. The issue I see is that any organizer that wants to use some sort of MoD site or other type of venue must surely have had to show they have Public Liability Cover - I cannot believe that any person is let on site without showing this type of cover (I bet there are loads of tradesman type of people that are members here that are not let on site without showing their own cover).

So my real problem with all of this is that either the MoD sites Are not asking for any type of insurance cover OR said person has some sort of moody documentation ???

I would be interested to hear from people like Warfighters, Urban, persons responsible for NvS as these have used these type of sites and I bet they have had to jump through hoops to get agreement ? or is it a lot easier than this ?

I'm sure that the Millenium people have to come up with cover for the venues they use in the UK and Europe ?
