I think that as soon as other event organisors look at running similarly 'cool sites' in a significantly more organised way, are honest and deliver on their promises the end will be well and truly nigh.
I like your idea and thinking BUT, Lets look at this and take Urban as an example. I have already played one of their events this year and am booked in for a second one at the end of november. On their flyers its says these events will be played if only 2 players turn up. Now, it obviously costs them for the site and equipment and staff and whatever other items they need. Some business can afford to do something and run at a loss as a way of encouraging business (this is a worldwide thing and not just for paintball) and so may try something once or twice. After a period of time if said event is not drawing the numbers and revenue then the owner must decide if it can justify doing it again. Thinking back to the event I played at Longmoor, I would imagine that this paid for itself but was not a big money spinner, but bearing in mind the other events they have had there would imagine that these are now turning into profitable events and I cant wait to play there again next month.
I am not dissing Urban or Gareth in any way or form and must say he is a very nice bloke that I spoke to at the event and have had communication with on FB, the point I'm trying to make is big events cost money and promoters have to earn money from events to pay the bills, and as much as they are doing it for us the players, ultimately they want a good event and to earn some money.
The events I have previously mentioned I have no problems with and will happily pay my hard earned cash to them for a kick arse event. Playing at a weird and wonderful venue on the one hand could be a really good crack, but if its not designed for a firefight, a weird place could then turn into a bucket of S**t !!!
From rewinds post, I do feel that event organisers are always looking outside the "box", but ultimately this costs money !!
Guys, carry on what you are doing - you all have a varied good customer base that will keep coming back to you and due to the less than fantastic "other promoters" events, you may well see an increase.
Cheers all.
