Does international athletics count?

I'm sure here in the UK they have regular trials by which you can attempt to qualify within set times/distances for selection to the National team.

Bit like Robbo did :D ;)

Not that I disagree with you Nick, but there is a selection procedure for some sports. I remember my club putting myself and a couple of other players up for tryouts for the England Handball team in Salford, many moons ago:(. Even then it was for us to tryout in our selected positions for the game, a chance to show how good we were and impress the selectors.

Sometimes it happens, but I'll happily take the point that not often, and even then someone usually has to invite you to tryouts based on a recommendation from a coach or someone.

You don't get selected for tryouts based on the fact that you want to have a go, not unless the tryouts are totally open like Robbo et al did, or if it's Pop Stars:eek: , (heaven forbid).

- And - once you have agreed the answer is "none" - then tell me why paintball should be different ?
Baseball. SEVERAL teams hold tryouts that are open to ANYONE to walk in and show what you got. It involves running a 90 dash for time, fielding drills, and perhaps a little hitting. Anyone with prospect gets an invite back.

I never agreed there was none.

And I know that I can try out for a national team in teh olympics. I can TRY OUT for snowboarding, I can TRY OUT for ANYTHING. It's an open shop. No false pretenses. Deal with it.

I also know that if I wanted to play in the NFL I have a way to work up to the NFL. I can do it if I want to. X-ball is a closed shop, Unless I'm *IN*, I'm out.

I'm still right.

Fine, I conceed, I'm so wrong, you're all so right. I'll wait my usual time before people tell me I was right. And if I have to be a pro player before you believe me, then the values here are so f-d up it's not funny.

Tyger, Come on guy chill !! the posts that were removed or edited (mine for one) were done so because of the reaction of other users on here resulting from a post that was seen by those same people to be unfair in its delivery, so the Mod's did their job...are you a special case so that all posts "slamming you" are left alone? Hell I even defended you to a point, Just live with the fact that there are "personalitys" from different continents who will never see eye to eye with you. In three years time sure jump and down and say you were right..until then you appear to be a lone voice. Don't try and twist this thread to your ends ie "tourny player" v "rec-player".....if only for the fact that you were at the event you feel so strongly "hard done by" as a TOURNY player.

X-ball is not a closed shop (as a nations cup then of course it is, selection process's not withstanding) as a format you can form a squad to play in it. Just as you (?) formed a squad to play in the Skyball event, so the answer to wether or not you can play in an X-Ball event is simple yes you can, hold your own trials...most all paintball teams are formed in this way so why would the X-Ball format be any different, its not. You see a player you want in your team so you approach him/her, later you hold trials to find more places to be filled in that team.

You may not be able to just form an X-Ball team and join in a tournament, if the mooted 8-team X-Ball Superleague is formed. However, these teams will stick search out new talent, whether it be a 14-year old kid at SC Village or an up-coming Am-A player at the NPPL...X-Ball may simply replace the Pro NPPL Div as the upper echelon, which cannibaizes on up and coming teams, so in that sense there's no change.

What's gonna be interesting is seeing which 8 teams are selected, whether it's a strict one-sponsor, one-team deal (i.e. Kingman has a team, PMI, has a team National has a team etc.) or it's more complex than that, and whther it's the NPPL or a separate body...

They're gonna have to find some way--even a fictious one--to separate X-Ball franchises from specific sponsors in terms of ownership and they will keep this whole thing as far away from the NPPL as possible.

Mother, is that you?
Fairies wear boots...

What's all this bollocks about x-ball franchises? Do you mean to say teams are going to make money out of this? Oh yeah, of course, our imaginary friends in tv land will pay for the rights.

I can't believe grown men are debating this. You're all kidding yourselves.

In three of tyger's earth years, you'll all be going 'what the f is x-ball?'. 'Oh yeah, I remember, it was that gimmicky thing that caused a fuss for all of two weeks, now pass me my Tippmann and then get back behind that tree.'

What's the next debate going to be: what if aliens land in the middle of the world cup and give away Rocky's position?
