By Nick:

Why do we HAVE to accomodate for NXL teams in the EXL ?

We have (at LEAST) two European teams that a willing and able to play the EXL.

As much as I like playing against NXL teams next year, I think it is just plain wrong for a team like Hardcore to be shut out from European events, to accomodate NXL teams..... this IS a European event series afterall - and driving "our own" to play in the states, to have US teams come here, is just illogical !

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Now there’s a clever solution.
Don’t know if it is politically possible, but I like it.

I mean…if Dynasty and Strange doesn’t want to participate in the EXL, coz if they want to they sure earned the places last season.

Cheers

Nick, Look at the big picture.
Who wants a European series??? - Surely the main objective is to create a league that is as close to a world series as possible!!
Whats got the better ring to it - European champs or World Champs??

I do feel for Hardcore cause they are a great team both to play against and to watch!
Maybe it would work out better to allow a panel of independant individuals to select Europes top teams but then can you imagine the backlash from those teams left out!?

If the EXL can be merged with the NXL then its gotta happen to create that world series.

I think Nick is right here and I have already made the same point to Niall reference having Yank teams play in the EXL.
He is also right in stating the relative ease of just playing 8 teams (all euro) in the double elimination format as against 10 or 12.
I have also made this point to Niall and Steve Baldwin.
But I also have to give due credit to Steve and Niall because their reasons for getting the Yank NXL teams involved was for all the right reasons.
I don't think the proposed setting up of the EXL that Richmond initially had in mind had made any provision for any NXL teams, so for Niall, Steve and Laurent to have negotiated any NXL team’s’ involvement in the EXL was quite an achievement bearing in mind the NXL teams get absolutely nothing from it in terms of series points and also get a whacking big travel and hotel bill.
Niall was just responding to the previous thinking where any Xball League that the Europeans were to be involved in had American teams playing.
This was because it legitimised it in terms of international paintball and also provided the Euro teams with high-end opponents.
The goalposts have changed slightly because the proposed deal that Dick Clark is allegedly underwriting has the top four Euro teams playing off against the top four Yank NXL teams in a televised world series at the end of the year.
And as far as I know there are plans to film the Euro 2005 season with Dick Clark securing the rights for this some time early next year.
Now since the NXL are locked in to their deal with this addendum world series package tagged on to accommodate us, it is now academic for American teams to be involved in any EXL since we have allegedly secured our own TV path.
Basically, we don't need the American teams to legitimise our EXL anymore as it legitmises itself by virtue of the deal that is soon to be done with Dick Clark.
Any American team involvement in the EXL makes a mockery of it being called European.
On a team developmental basis I would love the Yanks to come over as I can pitch Nexus up against them and learn from their year long start they have but this is a decision that I think all the Euro teams involved should make.

True, but i can only think of one team that would be good enough to compete.

So what your saying is that the european champs in any sports are crap if they don´t win the world series??
I think that european champ sounds great and if we then could have some sort of "champions league" with the best teams from exl and nxl playing at one event at the end of the year that would be awesome!
To say that the americans would come over here and kick our (european teams) ass because we didn´t get to play them in the series during the year is like saying we suck and are afraid.
Your are right on track Nick....

To sjt19: who do you think would be good enough to be in the exl?

1. Not really, they have had a headstart at Xball, and would be significantly better at it than Euro teams at the start untill we catch up.

2. You:)

Ok... So we are to be raped in the a** because we reffed at campaign instead of playing. The same people who ask us to help the series to marshall is sticking the knife in our back by taking away the points! Why did we get the points in the first place?!?

To be fair to the board, they have picked their criteria - WPS rankings minus ref points - and stuck to it. Had Hardcore played Campaign, you would have still had to finish 3rd, I believe, to have qualified ahead of Shockwave.

I agree with Sam that Hardcore is the other Euro team with the ability to be in the EXL, but by the Mill. boards criteria you would have missed out even had you played Campaign.

However, I guess if you argued the case that ref points should have counted, which is a legitimate claim I suppose, then there is a school of thought that says Hardcore and Outkast should replace Shockwave and Ducklings.

Or by Millennium rankings, which would put Hardcore in at the expense of Nexus.
