'let's face it, pulling off a killer tripple backflip mugging punctuated with a little pirouette is pointless unless it is infront of a packed stadium....'

Dude, I have that move copyrighted, along with the caterpillar bunkering, the Scorpio run-down and the eletric boogaloo chain breakout - use any of em and you WILL hear from my lawyers.

A few of the advantages of getting official recognition from UKSport:

(i) TV Channels will probably take more interest if they see that we're a proper Sport not just a stupid game played by paramilitary fanatics

(ii) It will be a basis for other countries to recognise Paintball. If we get enough support we can then approach the IOC

(iii) More chance of getting sponsorship non-paintball related companies

(iv) We could apply for Lottery Grants!

(v) Chances are we'll be taken much more seriously

But it would also mean that more people would flood on to the scene, and then there would be more good players, and then it would make me look rubbish....

Why does football need the Premier League?

Surely Michael Owen etc would (and should) be happy to have a kickaround in the park of a Saturday afternoon, and never have the opportunity to represent their country, and play at the top level?

Personally, I want paintball to become a "proper" sport, with national leagues, international teams etc. I want to be signed to a team, and play every week infront of my teams supporters. I want people to look up to me for what I do, ask for my autograph etc.

{A-Hem, that's my Oscar winning performance then} :p

Consider these questions:

Question 1 - Do you think Paintball is a Sport?

Question 2 - Do you want other people to think so too?

Question 3 - Would you like Paintball to be more popular?

Question 4 - Does the idea of Paintball at the Olympics appeal?
1 - Yes, the amount of running i'm forced to do it bloody better be ;)

2 - TBH, I'm not really concerned with other peoples perceptions of paintball unless its one that is of detriment to the game (that leads to markers being banned).

3 - I'm happy playing the game as it is. I can't say whether I'd prefer the sport if it was more popular or not. I just don't know.

4 - What are the advantages of paintball as an Olympic sport? What if during the Olympic final UK vs US, when Team Captain Hotpoint (of Leopards) gets hit by a ball from a hot US marker which goes through his goggles blinding him? Could the sport be banned from such an incident?

What if during an ice-hockey game, the puck breaks a players nose, or a stick breaks a players arm?

What if an official is speared by a javelin?

As "recognised sports" with proper governing bodies, these activities would stand a far greater chance of surviving such an occurance, than a "hobby" or a "pastime".

If paintball gains recognition as a sport, then it should be harder to ban - look at what happened when they tried to ban boxing!

A sport where the sole purpose is to beat the living daylights out of the other participant, but it's a sport, so that's ok. :p
