"We can be branded a UK team and a Euro team I guess"

wee - you should be in politics ;-)

What is the difference between a UK team and a Euro team?

If I were you I would base it on where most of your team actually live, eat and pay taxes, and then use that as the basis of your origin. Otherwise you can have your feet in a number of camps, which at the end of the day makes you lose credibility since you can bend the categories to meet your needs.

My ol' team was "based" in Canada since that was where we practised, however out of the 10 men, 5 were from the US, 4 from Canada and one from Germany - so that really made us a US team with Canadian tendencies and German influences :)

I like the way we can base ourselves as either a European team or a UK team. So I'll leave it at that.:D

For this case, I'll call us a UK team;) We are 1 of 2 top Uk teams in the Div 2 Table for the 04 season.

maybe its an advantage to live in a smaller country. in Norway there are maybe 3-4 places/fields only (widely spread) were you can play against/with the nations best players. a small but friendly scene. I often see newbies/youngsters with tippmanns etc. playing supair with the "big boys" instead of rec. their level of play is increasing exponentially. also, during wintertime we play indoor at smaller fields, which is good practice for the technical/aggressive part.

It's good to see tigers organising training days down south. I will be well up for that. I can only voice my humble opinion from the viewpoint of being at the grass roots level of the game but i can raise my biggest concern as i think the logic behind it is sound.

The biggest problem that southern uk teams have is getting adequate coaching(my team included), particulary over the first couple of seasons after a new team has formed. I can give an example of this from my teams experience. We had been playing for just over a year, we had training days but without an experienced coach we were mainly doing snapshooting drills and scrimmaging. Our training lacked direction because nobody on our team knew how to play the game correctly. We couldn't lock up a field properly and cross up, our movement upfield was slow and our breakouts sucked. At our local tourney we were relying on raw talent to win games. We won some games but we never dominated other teams and if the game started going against us we would fold. We sucked big style!

Then something happened which changed the way we played. Martin from the jags turned up at our training day. Martin then trained us properly for 3 or 4 training days and we started to get a lot better.(thanks martin). We got promoted in our local tourney and things were looking up.

This brings me to the point of this tale. I would guess that 75% of new teams flounder about for a year without proper coaching and pick up all sort of nasty habits. I'd guestimate that pretty much every sub div 1 Dartford team doesn't have a player with experience of playing top level ball. The problem we have in the uk isn't player base it's simply nearly everyone is trying to figure out how to play rather than being taught all the basics, whereas our european counterparts are teaching new teams the basics and are allowing new players to get amongst it with their top players while we let new teams languish unguided, wasting away raw talent.

I also agree with stongle's comment about uk teams being extremely unfit. I go to the gym 3 times a week and that helps my game immensly i'm not superfit but i'm working on it. However, if we get the training side of things correct there will be no place in the game for the Fat knackers as younger faster players with mad skillz(learned from experienced players) shoot their lard arses of the field game after game.
