Sorry Stongle, But I was NOT trying to be facetious (I had to check the dictionary to find out what it means :D ) My intention was to generate a genuine debate about the standard of UK paintballing across all the Divisions, based on the results of the major UK annual <a href="http://www.ntsearch.com/search.php?q=paintball&v=56">paintball</a> event.

The results show that we are not up there with our European cousins, and I wondered why that is. If ,as some suggest, UK teams tend to play BELOW their proper level, then there is a case that the results at CC, should have seen UK teams actually placed higher. Right??

I feel it has to do with many things - mentality, approach, style, lack of proper <a href="http://www.ntsearch.com/search.php?q=training&v=56">training</a>, and possibly a lack of analysis of performances in order to identify positives and opportunities for improvement.

We, at Escarmouche, whilst constrained by many things (e.g having only a max of 7 <a href="http://www.ntsearch.com/search.php?q=people&v=56">people</a> at any practice, no other teams to practice against, and only playing 2 events all year- both Millenniums) are trying our best to work to our strengths, and practice and train properly. But it's tough.

We all face our own particular barriers to getting better, and I think once we recognise these we can develop effective strategies to overcome them, or at least minimise them.

It takes hard work, determination and for many of us, a knowledge of HOW to drill properly, HOW to analyse performance. We sometimes make assumptions that in knowing that we should drill, that we all know HOW to drill. But this is not always true.

well after Jaguars XS shocking result, we discovered a serious short fall in our mid game, and are as of now training to get it righted. so although we played divission 3, i felt we learned alot, and no teams steam rolled us, sabre (our division 1 team) had to cheat to beat us (awaits flaming:rolleyes: ) well it wasnt team sabre, more of the guest they had with them
but i know i speak for the whole team when i say we had an awesome weekend even though we sucked, and we're trying to get into div 2 at dartford 7's, should be anyway as we came 2nd last time.

On the subject of drilling and practicing, one thing that is apparent from my limited experience of training is that you need one person with lots of experience to get the best out of your training sessions. Regretfully it seems hard in the uk(particulary down south) to find players or teams of this calibre to train with. UK teams are very insular and cliquey in this respect. I respect apoc for playing a div above but it's a very expensive way to get an hours worth of scrimmaging. It would be nice to see proper regular training days organised at local sites by experienced uk players like stongle. Coaching from top uk players would help to discover the talent in the uk and would make it easier to establish teams full of talent rather than spreading it out. Also, new players introduced into this environment would take a more professional attitude and treat paintball like the sport it is.

Something that struck me from talking to european teams is that most of them get the oppurtunity to train with top teams all year around i.e Squal with russian legion, FLC with powertrip.

I'm sure i'm going to hear all the old excuses about not having time in busy training schedules and that we do a training day once a year isn't that enough. Or that teams won't come or its too expensive/too much effort to organise. I live in hope that someone will prove me wrong as i'm tired of seeing players with ability not reaching their potential(and then not being able to pass that experience on) due to lack of adequate coaching.
