UK:call for tighter control on air guns

Real world/UK?

It would be great in an ideal world to not require such measures, but unfortunately I live in the real world, in the UK where we have many adversaries to our sport.

I would rather remove their 'teeth' before they had chance to bare them... some measure of self control and registration would go a huge way to do that.

Yep, I understand but it still smells of Petain and Vichy France (to toss out a possibly wildly inappropriate metaphor and slag the French while I'm at it.) :D Spreading the love.

Teej, same song, different verse.

Hotpoint, is there a registration service with the UKPSF? The figures of responsible owners willing to register may even help us... although those of us like me  with over 30 markers may have to do some work to register them ;)
No registration system at the moment. I'll suggest the idea to the other federation types. To be honest the idea of voluntary registration never occured to me... I must be too statist in my min-set

30 Markers! Good grief Manike I thought I was excessive with 6 !

is a paintball marker a weapon?

Not in my book. It's a piece of sports equipment (that could be used as a weapon like many pieces of sports equipment). That's one reason I want it kept seperate.
The problem for us on this one is that the legal definition for this one comes from Case-Law (Precedent) not Statute

Apparently a decision was taken by a judge applying the Mischief Rule of statutory inpretation rather than the Literal Rule* that the definition of a lethal or dangerous "weapon" within the Firearms Acts could be taken to mean "potentially" lethal as well :(

*I am astonished to discover I remember my A-Level Law here!

Nice discussion gents

But after being one of those who had legally held firearms taken of them, i'll say "don't trust those in power at all"

As for putting pb markers on anything resembling a FAC (which i have got) Is a non starter, you have to have all the land that you are going to use, inspected by the police (who usually have no idea which end of the gun is the dangerous end:rolleyes: ) then you have to have the permission of the landowner. and if you get so much as a traffic ticket, they can remove your licence from you:eek:

So i think it's way better to avoid that route if we can

Alien
P.s. if i remember, south wales poice tried to put pb markers on FAC's about 14 years ago but it was defeated (thank god)

Good point!

right now it's fine but if the circumstances change that may need to be addressed...

Pat, how is it currently in Jersey if someone wants to bring their own marker over and play?

manike

Manike...I think You would have to go through paul batho of the jersey warriors who has to ok it by the police ,,,or use his licence which carries about 40-50 markers ....pat

Mother, is that you?
Hey is this discussion open to anyone, or do you have to be esn (Alien excepted)?

Registering a marker... are you bleedin mad? Showing that we are caring, loving, respopnsible citizens... jesus, has everyone got hotpointitis?

If they want to rope it in they will.

The fact is, they wont... so stop worrying.

There are some really valid points coming out of this discussion but your preaching to the converted.
A couple of years ago, when the home office began to look at this issue, I went to see my local MP to discuss the issue with him.
I took along a letter outlining my views and explaining what the sport entailed. I also took along a copy of PGI so that I could give my argument some credibility and to show that the sport is not all about camo and woodland events.
He agreed to back me and shortly afterwards I received a letter from the home office saying that they were treating paintball guns differently to airguns as they had recieved no complaints about them and did not consider them a threat.
I've been an active trade union member since I was 21 and I quickly learned that you win more arguments being proactive rather than reactive.
Go and see your MP, believe me they will be glad to discuss the issue with you (most politicians will kill for the 'yoof' vote) and acting now will save a lot of persuasion in the future.
Spread the paintball gospel,
JJ
