think its better to be over aggressive at first and learn your limits and be able to tame it down, rather than being to cautious and getting no where.
So in short, if you see a move or a mug go for it, after you have been drilled a couple of times you will learn when its on.

As someone mentioned earlier, the further you get up the field the more attention you will get from the other team, if you have 3-4 guns on you just stay there and soak it up, it frees up a lot of field for your team to move up through.

Also when you are in your barricade (or in fact anywhere) you should always try and keep your gun up.

You'll want to practice snap shooting while you're prone. Snap shooting down the snake at an opposing snake player is tricky stuff, so get down on all fours and practice at home, and alternatively snap shoot over your bed (like you're in the snake) from the same position to get your back nice and strong. One with the gun is a good DVD to watch for these kinds of personal skills, you can download it for a tenner, and is defo worth it. Diving and sliding are also very important if you plan to make it into your primaries. If you're playing snake take those first few moments to think once you're in there

The biggest attributes you can have when playing front, is being patient and having control over the situation. Not being patient gets you shot, and gets the game plan blown out of the water.

What you are trying to do first and foremost, is stay alive. Killing things comes 2nd. If you gunfight with someone, you are putting yourself into a 50/50 situation (you have as much chance of being shot as the other guy).

Patience, control, stay alive.

You'll know what I mean one day.

Of course if you get the chance to do anything close to taking 3 guys out in a run through, then do it. But chances are there are few people on these boards that could do that even at the relatively low level I play at. There are no mug teams in the Millenniums, and to survive, you cannot go on triple mugs. It works in your head, but very hard to pull off.

Patience, control, stay alive .... its the only way, all the other things will come with time and effort.
