Made a point of wearing googles? What woodshop googles you call this protection? This hasn't been accepted as a form of protection since the early 90's. And what about the auidence a shot of them all wearing googles would have been nice but I'm suspecting that they were wearing no form of protection at all [can anybody clarify this?]
The beeb has just shown a numerous amount of people [16-35 age bracket is the biggest for this show] how to inflict pain on unsuspecting members of the public. I can just see hordes of youngsters heading down to thier local P8ntball store to buy markers tomorrow, just to shoot thier mates.
When will the media stop seeing our beloved sport as a game and treat it with the respect that we do.
Media coverage yes, but provided it is held with the correct safety in place. This form of Clap trap no.

Yes but your forgetting the 1million viewers who have just taken note that paintball IS a growing sport. People will hopefully see this, and search the internet for information.

Dont be so uptight, how the hell do you know what they did for the audience?
Do you actually think they woulda let them on without precautions.
As far as i should think the 3 guys in the middle have the markers on safe...the only live guns were the other 2 and did they face the audience?

Please shush.

Oh and anothe rpoint, how many people will know where their local pball store is?
Sure a website may count but it does take a little know how on how to operate it all.

only the 2 fireing had paint... the rest were "empty"

Also they were what the public would call professionals... they did nothing wrong... they even but a barrel sock on when they had finished...

i view it as good publicity....

1. As per the other thread in Announcments, all the audience were issued with the same 'woodshop' goggles. To the unsuspecting public, at least they were wearing 'something' and not 'nothing'

2. As also stated in the other thread, the level of competence by the team in quetion was quite accepable, at no time I think "f00k he is waving that barrel about a bit". If they had come on with barrel bags on the markers, the illusion would have been lost. The two lads with loaded markers made sure that they were trainded firmly on the ground, then on the arses of the unfortunate celebs, then back at the ground. Even when said dumb celebs took their goggles off, the last man out went to lift, then decided not to and walked off stage with his mask still on.

Basically, if I had felt that it was a bad thing for PB, I would probably have beaten you to the rant, as I was but 5ft away from my PC when I watched it, but I didnt ;)

It was safe and fun, didn't you hear the audience laugh? :D

Nobody was put under any kinda risk, apart from Johnny Wross :D

It was good clean publicity and BBC are showing it, one of the biggest broadcasting comapanies has shown Paintball in a good light.

Can't be bad at all! :D :D

How can anyone think this is bad in any way. Paintball has just been on TV at prime time and viewed by millions. If you own a site then just sit back and let the phone ring all week.

Jonathon Ross getting shot in the arse will do more for paintball than all the competitions ever held including all the milleniums put together.

The pannel were wearing goggles, it doesn't matter what type, the fact is they were wearing goggles. By the way for your information woodworking goggles are usually rated at grade 1 impact (.5cal steel ball at point blank range at 120m/s/450 fps). Which is probably higher than your paintball goggles.

Well done lads for getting on in the first place, well done Gilly and Hat for putting on the comp so the TV were interested in the UK Champions (Remember the BBC wouldn't have given a **** about any of the so called "Big Teams" in the UK), they were interested in the UK champions.

The 2 events that have been the most important of the year so far have been.

1) The PA cup creating the UK Champions
2) Jonathon ross getting shot up the arse.

This is what paintball needs.

Have to agree

I understand the concerns of the few but I spoke to one of the players last week and he said they would refuse to appear unless certain safety issues were resolved. Normally you would have seen all the celebs just sat there without masks so they insisted the BBC issued masks so the players at least had some protection. OK so they did not contain full face plates and ear armour , if they had they would have covered the faces, the reactions would not have been seen so I doubt it would have even been aired!!!. I have every confidence in the players concerned that they took as many safety precautions as possible.
I think they did a good job, well done the players who appeared. Also well done the BBC for listening to the players.

Remember the program filmed on the Channel Isles that featured paintball (can't remember the name!!) the producers enlisted the help of a paintball team, the team set safety criteria and the production company told them were to go, the result contestants, presenters and film crew were all seen playing without masks!!! so at least the BBC took note of the players.

Incidentally if you think it will not have any effect on paintball I have just checked with the UKPSF info line and they have had a couple of enquiries where the caller mentioned the program last night and I have had one from Scotland (no good to me as my site is in Lancashire) looking to play and they mentioned the program. A result so don't knock it!!
