The Rules (playing in shorts)

Just played the Zap indoor and first i must say despite what people said, it was a very good tournament.

One thing that happened to me managed to put a bad light on the whole tournament for me was, when i was taken out by a marshall, in the middle of a game for wearing shorts!
Now i know about the rules that say you cant have bare skin but there's a law that London cabbies have to keep a bail of hay in their car but the police arent pulling taxis over and arresting the drivers if theres no bail of straw in the boot.
Im not blaming anyone i just think the rules should be made more specific.
Why is the bare skin rule there? Is it purely a safety measure or is it that it is easier to wipe bare skin (surely the bruise will be obvious)?
Also why does it say you cant wear shorts but people get away without wearing gloves, cos i saw lots of teams doing that, and the only bit of bare skin showing on me was the back of my legs where my knee pads didnt cover.
Ive played in them shorts for years, i played in them at the last few milleniums in the Uk and no one has said a thing.

I just think its time the rules were cleared up.
Anyone who has an opinion, please voice it.

need to get hold of Tank for an exit
John,
One of our playes was told before the last game he wasn't allowed to play (fortunately we had a spare player...) due to the shorts thing.

I think one of the main reasons is that as paintball is slowly coming into the public eye more, the 'bods' who do the organisation etc don't want the increased publicity to include those fantastic blood welts that a bare skin shot produces :D

At least, that's probably the official line ;)

A small factor would be the wiping element as well.

I personally don't think you should have been pulled in the middle of the game though, that stinks!
Although it IS the responsibility of the team captain, and his players to know the rules, maybe a few (10 perhaps) penalty points would be a fairer punishment.

Added afterthought: A couple of years back I was playing down at Temple in shorts, and took a shot up the inside of my left leg, which, upon checking after the game (I wasn't gonna drop my shorts on field now was I?) I foud had burst, so trousers and long sleeve tops are a way of preventing hits from going 'MIA'

It is for your own safety ....however it is also to stop the person wearing shorts getting shot up inside the leg and the shot not showing
hey you get shot there you are gonna jump but if a ref checks you they will think it is a bouncer, I mean are they gonna look up your shorts? ....nope.
Surprised it wasn't brought up at the rules/captains meeting but if it was... it's your player/captains fault not the judges who didn't say anything earlier.

Chances are some team probably complained about seeing some players wearing shorts so then the judges started to enforce the ruling.

Stupid rules....

That whole pads on outside of trousers was stupid.

1. They shift about more as u run/slide and so pretty much become useless as any form of protection from injury.

2. Cause more bouncers

3. Mean that u spend the rest of the game running around like a guy from "escape from colditz" as you fill the damn things up with sand on your first slide into a bunker.

4. They look stupid, and hey im sexy, i dont wanna look stupid :)

5. see 4

Still gutted, missed play offs and trophy by 3 points. I put that down too not looking my full 100% sexy due to those pads ;)

I beleive this was in pgi a little while ago . cant remeber exact issue and cant look it up cause i gotta go to work in 20 mnutes but there was a pro team a while ago that vaselined there arms so that shots would bounce better and not show as much . apparently it worked and that was one of the reasons for the no skin rule .

Check out the millennium rules - they specifically state long sleeved tops and full length trousers. However, nothing about gloves that I could see anywhere in the rules.
They do say that knee/shin/elbow pads etc can be worn under or over the outer clothing, which I think is different from the UKPSF rules.
The strangest clothing related rule I found was the one about not being allowed to wear playing tops the same colour as any arm bands or flags in use at a specific tournament - how on earth are teams supposed to know in advance what colour arm bands & flags are going to be used, or are they supposed to turn up with 4 sets of playing tops just in case?

Yep you be right, Its listed right here on our favorite site. The Link Does seem like a silly rule. The world is full of laws that aren't enforced or are just plain silly. Where I live it is illeagle to detonate a nuke in the city limits. The fine is $500.00. I would hate to be the cop writeing that ticket. So anyway, I think you should be able to play in shorts, Vasaline should be outlawed. Just curious was it a one for one, and did it effect the outcome of the tourny?
