Does that stand for Perfectly Circular? *Ducks* :D :D :D

I do love the High Moral ground taken in these issues - I was brought up in SE London, and went to a predominately Black/Asian Secondary school, where I was bullied because of my Race!
Did this make me Racist? Hell no - I know exactly what it's like!

Personally, I see no problem with someone making 'racist' or 'sexist' comments - providing they have the courage of their convictions and will stand up alone in front of a crowd of all races/genders etc and make their statements and the justifications for those statements;)

Should sort most of the Herd mentality out IMO:)

BTW this is not aimed @ JD or anyone else:)

Why the hell should anyone come on to a paintball web site and be faced with racist jokes? I'm not talking about Scottish, American, English or French jokes........ they are usualy innocent and not particularly personal (anyone offended by being called tight with cash, loud, boring or capable of eating anything is being over sensitive)......also, last time I checked they were nationalities not races. I mean insulting offensive racist comments........ why the hell should it appear on a paintball web site? you want freedom of speech? then go elsewhere....... you can't post about interesting computer games you've played on here or talk about football, so why should racist crap be allowed? It's a paintball web-site which is kept as good as it is (brown tongue mode) by moderating which is consistent and occasionaly pretty severe........ but everyone keeps coming back. Why? because it's a respected forum. It won't be if it starts filling up with racist crap. As for swearing......... ban it.......
Negatives: a few peoples vocabulary will be halved.
Gains: Paintball looks a lot better to the new players and those stumbling on the site.
Honestly, if we can't swear........... big deal, who does it hurt?
I agree with freedom of speech, I really do, but this forum isn't the place for it........... this is a great place to talk about paintball...... but it doesn't turn to crap because we don't have complete freedom of speech.

Anyway, swearing to get a point across just shows a lack of imagination.

Also, can I point out that JD aint me :)
If anyone reads from the top of the page they might think it's me.

all i'll say is, would we be having this discussion if a:

JD was a black person

or b:

DW or someone posted a post along the lines of JD's but towards white people?

PC is all well and good but if he intended it as a joke then fair enuff. Granted, he should of at least put smiley's in but we all make mistakes at some point or another....

just my 2cents...

JD - Jack Daniels
DW - Dark Warrior
PC - Political correctness

Probably not, but I don't think DW would lower himself to it.
How many black people post on here regularly?, in fact, how many posters aren't white? honestly? do we expect it to change any time soon if this sort of stuff is on the site? Paintball is going mainstream....... the site is going to start getting lots of outside hits............. do we want this sort of crap to be the voice of paintball? you know it will happen....... three million posts, the papers will pick out the one racist one, the gun reference, the sexist drivel etc... etc....
If it's not on here for them to find, then they can't print it.
Anyway, if anyone wants to spout this stuff there are lots of places they can do it. But not on a paintball website.

And smileys fix nothing, Bernard Manning tells plenty of jokes, he's trying to be funny. He's still a racist pile of crap.

If onlt Hitler had used smileys instead of yellow stars........... the hollocaust would have been a lot easier to handle.
I know that's extreme........ probably even tasteless......... feeling offended? I didn't need to say it, but I made my point.......... see what I mean. My gran was Jewish.......... doesn't make it less unpleasant.

Oh hang on............... :) there ya go, no problem.

Just gotta point out......... I'm responding to the thread...... not the single post that everyone has jumped on.

Racial slurs against a race that holds most of the political power or money or social privilege always plays differently from slurs against a race (or religious group or gender or sexual orientation) that is basically disenfranchised.

If I make fun of my boss, and he laughs about it, no big deal. If I make fun of my employee, and they laugh, they might be doing so to protect themselves. The laughter or ease with which someone who is beholden responds to mockery or belittling is not a true reflection of their feeling.

As far as the boards go, and potential rules, I say let everyone say whatever they want. Social pressure will sort out those who say things the community here won't tolerate. I'd say the only bans or removals should be in posts where nothing of value can be retained. We have to trust the Mods on that, but so far, so good. We can make a new forum if we don't like the moderation in this one after all, or talk to people in person.

In the thread that I assume started all this discussion, Joe Bob never intended to offend anyone. He night have done so, but if he hadn't been allowed to, he might never have seen all this. I imagine it was an eye opener. Whether or not a white guy talking about "brothas" actually bothers anyone who is black, it sure gets other white people tense.
