The classified system as a whole needs to be a very simple thing. Both to police, and to sell/trade on.

From the mods point of view if someone doesn't follow the rules. You delete the tread stating the reason code(as you do now) and add a link to the classified rules.
If they don't follow it a second time. You simply stop them from trading on the site.

There's nothing complex about this. There aren't extra responsibilities or duties you should feel obliged to do.

As a seller/trader follow the rules of the site.........that's it! If the deal goes sour, contact PayPal, if you get no joy contact the authorities or what ever you doing such situation(I've never been in this situation because I follow the simple processes there is to buying/selling on the forum)

This is easy to say and should be easy in theory but it still means ALL the classified threads have to be read and checked, if it's deleted the torrents of questions and abuse some of the mods receive is just unreal at times. You know you're doing your job when you've at least one message of hate mail in your inbox ;)

I think we should not do any moderating for a week and see what happens.

Believe me when I say this that I'm not being an idiot or anything.......but is that not the job of a moderator. Let alone 3 of them?

To an extent, there's a whole forum to look after too while working full time at our normal jobs, looking after families and several of us have young children to attend to. Every Mod has a life outside p8ntballer, a lot of users seem to think we're simply here at their beck and call.

It's also us who link in and try to come up with new ideas to make the forum a better place to visit.

Taking abuse from people who can't follow simple rules though? Nah.

Believe me, it gets tedious repeating the same thing over and over and over and over and over, every day. As I said before if you could see the amount of threads deleted and so on during the course of a week it, you'd be surprised, also the amount of spam bots which never make it to their first post, and the ones who do.

By and large the rest of the forum looks after itsself, the classifieds is easily the most problematic area.

You make good sensible points Andy, which reasonable people will listen to, understand and take heed of. Go and tell them to the people who won't listen, then tell them again, and again and wait for them to give you abuse about it and you'll see where we are coming from. After that, people who haven't followed the rules will have issues because their purchase hasn't turned up and expect the Mods to do the legwork for them.

I'm a bit of a lapsed member atm, but have used the site to buy/sell a lot. VERY happy with the rules, as they make it much easier to follow.

Another site I use has a rule that you must have a post count of 100 USEFUL posts before gaining access to the sales section. Might help?

The site itself is one of the best to sell kit on and hence that is why there is so many people who do sell. Perhaps a time period of membership or a small fee to become a member who can sell would be other options?

The mods do a great job but you have to look at the system if it is getting worse and taking too much time to police for no real gain why keep it?
That isn't a bad idea, I wouldn't mind paying an annual fee to use it

Which I absolutely get. I work very long hours a day and the last thing I would want to do is come home to some little **** who thinks hard done by because he hasn't followed the rules. You (the mod team) do a great job and do above and beyond(what I think) what you should do. I think this is where the mods have come unstuck. Members just expect the services you give now.

Taking abuse from people who can't follow simple rules though? Nah.
absolutely. Your not there to take abuse. You just have to start being super blunt with each person that feels hard done by. A link to the rules and which ones they've broken will suffice. That's that should be expected from a mod.

After that, people who haven't followed the rules will have issues because their purchase hasn't turned up and expect the Mods to do the legwork for them.
And you know, this is what I've said in an earlier post. This is the culture that has been bred. It's almost an expectation from members that if they follow the rules(and if not in most cases) and it goes sour, the mods are there to sort it out.

You stop giving this service, which seems to have become a problem. and after a month or so your complaints should/will drop. Purely because people wil have to learn to stand on their own 2 feet

The rest of your post is spot on.

The above is where we come unstuck, we're all too nice :D
