What i'd like to see is someone like Robbo, or the other big names when it comes to Paintball knowledge, actually start writting some in-depth articles, or even a book, on right way to train.

I know that when i played a tourney at Temple in the A division, I learnt a hell of alot on playing tight. Getting pounded on by NWC and Banzai and Backlash et al, meant that I'm now aware of the curved nature of the sup'air and no longer leave that little bit of my knee or toe sticking out at the bottom where the bunker curves back.

Yet i still now next to nothing on field walking and spotting shooting lanes, since you can shoot a can repeatedly to become better snapshooting, but field reading without someone who knows better to point out things is a very slow process.
Or maybee I just dumb

Try looking thru the archives of this site or getting a subscription to PGI, there is more than enough there to teach you everything you need to know !!!!

I was asked to write up three articles concerning particular areas of paintball, I did so.
This is true Robbo. Flicking through the book, I only found a few things useful, and most of them were wrote by you. It was written a few years ago though, and tactics and styles of play have changed since then. Why don't you start writing a series of books concerned with the tactical and team training aspect of playing, i.e training drills and field walking. I bet you would make sell millions!!! You could bring one out every two years, to keep up with the changing tactics and styles of play teams use. I wonder how that will affect tournaments? Just a thought.

Re: Re: Only the richest (or ,most sponsered will survive)

Any tips/ideas?- the biggets problem is that this is a new sport, and there is very little information around .......

How much do YOU pay whilst training then?

How do you know what bull**** techniques work and wot dont?

Hey Pest,
this may well be a new sport but there is more than enough information around on this web site in the archives and in the pages of PGI, so I would (if you haven't done already) get yourself a subscription.
Everything you need is here or in the magazine !!

As for how much I pay when I train, well I am lucky enough for it to be free but this is not the point, it is the teams out there and the people in them that is important and none of them are precluded from training correctly because they are not sponsored.
This line is usually put out to justify the lowly positions of some teams when they are not sponsored.
They then blame thier lack of success on their lack of finances, I know there are some legitimate claims out there but some guys are just plain dicks and all they wanna do is moan about the pros.
Truth is, with all the sponsorship in the world, this type person would still be ****.
Sponsorship helps, of course it does, but it sure ain't the 'be all' and 'end all' of excellent teams as some would have us believe.
As for what works and what doesn't, well, short answer is, read my articles and you will learn but if you don't fancy that then get yourself playing tournaments, experience tends to teach us most things :)
Good Luck !!!

Robbo, why not re-introduce your training days. Without wanting to bum you up, they were pretty good. I remember the session you give us...we learnt five years' worth of play in one day.

It was so good the next week we beat three of the top five pro teams in the country - one of them was the Nam. Do you remember that? No, well are you sitting comfortably and I'll begin..........................

Seriously though, what about it?
Hey Rancid,
yeah I have thought about doing them again but as you know... I am expensive and some teams would rather spend five hundred quid wasting paint just playing the game and 'thinking' they are training rather than learning :)
Robbo
PS Rancid, I have no recollection (nor do I wish to) of any defeat suffered at the hands of a bunch of Ams called......hmmmm I forget :)

Well,

Thunder are investing a lot of £££ in doing 4 (poss 5) Millenniums this year and if one training day which was a "bit expensive" would help us make the most of that money I am sure we would be very interested.

If you are up for doing them again Robbo, give me a shout. I am sure the guys would be up for it.

If it works perhaps another team would like to come in on it to share the cost - subject to any sensible limit on numbers.

Robbo, sorry to have brought some stuff up, that you would rather not be reminded of. In all honesty, I've only seen the book, and flicked through it, so I can't say much about it's contents. I just figured that given the fact some pretty big names were attache to it, it would be worth something. Guess you really can't judge a book by it's cover........

What sort of stuff did you write for it? (I assume you back your own writings still)

Hey Bud,
yeah, I do back what I wrote but that's as far as it goes.
I haven't read all of that book but what I did read was pretentious and downright midsleading.
For any new players picking up that book, it gives them a completely inappropriate view of our sport.
Perhaps I was put off by the sections I read and there are some relevant pieces in there (apart from mine ... :) ) but I just couldn't bring myself to read any more after reading the first few sections.
Anyway, enough of all that, looking forward to hooking up Bud come Mayhem time :)
