Strange, Euro X-Ball and Team USA

Well I don't know, but I'm guessing that the Strange thing is a force majeur and that Dynasty have not been consulted about playing in the Nations Cup in any way. I'd bet the same with regards to Avalanche, Paintball Gateway, Reds and all the others.

Also, I believe it is important to depart from the whole franchise idea, as that makes X an elitist thing, with no chance of lower ranked teams to get in on the show - which will (once the novelty wears off) make X something very few care about in paintball. - I firmly believe a promotion and relegation system has to be adopted, so that the best teams in whatever Series X is associated with, have a chance of getting in X after finishing in the top of the Series (after a season), while the worst X teams are dropped down into the Series Proper...... Kind of like X being a Champions League of sorts.
Isn't being elitist the whole point of the NXL?
Why do you think the franchises are a bad idea? I also see good points in a promotion system as you suggest, but on the other hand, franchise based sports have been going strong in the US for god knows how long.
Not saying I agree or disagree with your prefered way of doing it, it's just that I see no harm in the franchise thing.

I agree with most of your conclusions, but I don't think it is necessary for a team to be (in theory) able to reach NXL status. Like in many other sports, it is (in theory) possible for indivisual players to get picked for the big teams. That could be seen as something to aspire to.
A bonus that a franchise/city based league has, is the fact that you will have the same teams competing year in, year out. This makes it easier for people to start recognising the teams, and start following them.
I can see where you are coming from though. As a player, I would think it's cool to be able to one day enter the big leagues with my team, but from a business point of view, meaning I would have to make sure that the non-player audience picks up on the NXL, it makes perfect sense doing it this way.
What I find strange is that the whole game is so different from what 'the masses' play. Sure, there are differences between soccer in this league and that league, in the same way that there are differences between the NFL and the CFL, but in essence the game is the same. Not so with regular paintball and X-ball. In an ideal world (assuming here that X-ball is indeed the future) most, if not all, competitive paintball would be played in the same format, thereby creating a fertile breeding ground for future NXL players. As it is now, it isn't really. You got some kickass players out there, who very likely won't stand a chance in X-ball.
We'll see what the future holds.

x- ball and Dynasty. Our response

As a few of you can figure i am a plyer on team Dynasty. I have been playing this sport for 17 years now and am more excited about this year then ever. The team is playing at more events than any other team out there. To say that we do not want to play X-ball is wrong. As I spoke with Oliver the other day we want to prove that we are the best in any format possible. However we refuse to sign anything that will tell us where and when we can and can not play. Dynasty's name is no one elses except the individuals that play on this team. We receive every bit of sponsorship equally and all receive any monies won equally whether you play at an event or not. The guys are playing now 3-4 times a week and all they want to do is play in more and more events. We will try and attend the PSP events if the promoters allow us to compete. We are not asking for any special treatment and we will pay our $2350 enterance fee like everyone else.
I am however upset with this current situation about the Millennium. I have sent a email to the top 3 in the series expressing the teams concerns about the Nation's cup event. We (dynasty) have earned the right to choose the team for the event. We have been in full support of the Millennium series from our exsistence. With top events and top reffing we have gone to every event possible within our budget each year. We don't
care about the politics of the current environment, we only want
to play as many events as possible. For the series to allow a
exception to the rules that have been in place for the last couple of years is wrong. I don't care that it is a new format. That's like saying well you deserve the right to play but its my ball and I am going to pick the teams and your not playing.

This one gets even better

I just spoke via email with a official telling me that the Nation cup event is a on going event at every Millennium through the season.
Now this really is going to piss the team off. Oliver, Alex and the rest of the guys are going to go Ape SH*&. Like I said they all want to play paintball in every format available. I am not saying that Dynasty should be the only team that represents the US but it should be our choice. The guys on Strange are some of the nicest guys out there in the sport. Paul has a great group of guys that are pretty straight up. Dynasty really likes to play them, they are great games. I hope that the Millennium promoters will stand by the rules that they have laid out and let Dynasty pick the team. Who knows I think we would even ask Strange to play with us in the event and represent our country together. I also
believe that both teams would like to play together to understand each others style of play better.

Interesting point. Strange and your team seem to very different approaches to the game. It would be good to see how a mix of that worked out.
I guess you understand that a good number of us Europeans are not happy with the way the whole things is laid out for this season, but since things seem to change on an almost daily basis, it's hard to predict what the end result will be.
One question for you, Rodders. You say that you (and the rest of the team) want to play as many formats as you can, which I'm sure most of us can relate to. But let's for argument's sake say that Dynasty got to play on the US X-ball team, alongside a few other American teams that were over here for that Millennium event (and every team is only allowed to provide three or four players for the X-ball team, like it is now). Assuming you compete in the "regular event", do you feel it is worth the risk of sending these three or for players to play X-ball nation's cup? With the added risk of them being too tired to play at the top of their game the following day (which could be finals day), or even worse, the risk of injury?
That's one of the things that kept us occupied here. It'd be good to know your view on things.

Oh, and on behalf of the moderators and members of this forum, welcome aboard.

You do bring up a point that is of valid concern. I would have to hold back the gates of hell to stop my guys from playing. These guys again are playing 3-4 days a week and don't care what they do to themselves. I think that the surface area that you play on in Europe however is better than the dirt lots we play on over here. We will as always bring extra players to all events in case someone is having a bad event or gets hurt. Again these guys
just want to play and shoulds have the rights that they have earned.
