Yep, evidently US UK forces in a fire fight in and around port of Basra. Evidently tanks are all over the DMZ as well. Just hitting news services......

No confirmation here yet but southern based forces are reported moving into DMZ north of Kuwaiti border and Special Forces are all over Iraq and have been for some time
Don't believe the hype just yet. This is the usual news agency trying to be the first routine. The war has been going on in this way for a while already, with troops going in and out of Iraq for some time now. The big push is not here yet. Well, that's what I think anyway. If the show gets on the road you can bet that CNN will be the first to tell you, because they have always been very friendly towards the US military, and don't mind being taken for a ride.

I dunno, saying the SBS has hit Basra is pretty specific, and they wouldn't make an initial landing with news crews.

Agreed, but this smacks of "routine" prepping for an invasion. They did the exact same thing in '91 at the Kuwaiti coastline, but they never came.
And don't forget that "the SBS has hit Basra" probably means that one team has gotten into a firefight with some troops. It's like saying D-day started when the first frogmen landed on Sword Beach in 1944, to do surveys of the sands on the beach, which was months before D-day.

It might well have started but the first we'll hear about it is when missiles start to get launched into Iraq..Im watching a White House press conference right now and their pretty ho hum on the topic..
