There’s no disrespect meant by my comment Robbo, [says Tortoise making a hasty retreat]. I saw Nexus playing K2 on field 1 [We made way for you whilst we waited for our opponents], and boy did that game rock. The team gelled well and the communication was fantastic. I went away thinking my god these guys are bloody good. It was later in the day when the news that Nexus had been beaten by Imperial started to filter through to the cheap seats. Everyone was starting to think ‘hang on this is meant to be the cream of the British paintball circuit why have they just lost’. But at the end of the day it’s like the giant killings by non league teams in the F.A. Cup. Maybe this being disrespectful to Imperial as after all they are a top flight team. People were starting to say lets ‘dis’ Nexus on p8nt I even heard say of a thread entitled ‘Nexus the great British Hope?’ mentioned. Perhaps said individuals [who shall remain nameless, I’m not a grass] were just playing up to my mischievous nature in the hope that I might start the dissing. True hands up I was all up for it, until when we all came out and watched the final and saw that your team had realised they were not infallible and had picked their game back up to the level what the ‘punter would expect’. This show of pure skill started to turn my mind and got me thinking that I had no right to come onto a public forum and cause trouble by trying to ruin the image of your team [as if I could even start to scratch the surface, most people ignore my posts anyhow]. I didn’t personally see the game where you were beaten so I can’t comment on what went on I was purely acting on the stories that were coming through, and as always this can be dangerous, perhaps Imperial were just having a bloody god day. I’ll never know.

Well that’s my 2p and my 4p and once again I apologise for misjudging nexus and wish you guys all the best of luck in future tournaments. And thanks for turning up at the event this weekend after all you didn’t have to do that and a lot of people appreciated having the big fish mixing it with the small fry.

Oh and Bunker Monkey you to can have loud shirts like ours just contact Fury sports and they'll sort you out. But watch out I hear the fashion Police have been informed of the case of clashing colours that have started to emerge
;) ;)
Interesting, I don't suppose you remember how and why imperial was set up in the first place?

Well, I 'm not sure that it was a giant killing exercise from Imperial, more that they played very well against us and we didn't stick to our game plan, pure and simple.
That's why I said earlier we learnt from those Imperial guys a very valuable lesson that as soon as we begin to deviate from what we have trained to do, and our game plan, then potential disaster awaits.
Imperial were fired up, as was every team who played against us, and were good enough to take advantage of a situation that we created ourselves and all credit to Imperial.
The important thing was as far as I was concerned was our guys put right what they did wrong and went on to win every game and the event after that.
Perhaps the hype around Nexus has and is working against us in some quarters but our motives for playing are what every other paintballer in the UK would also want.
We are working extremely hard to get to the top; it's a two to three year programme, nothing less.
I would be a fool to think otherwise and if anybody needs convincing of this time scale, just take a look at the Russian Legion, they train five times a week, have virtually unlimited resources and it still took them three / four years to get to the top.
Nexus, although having one of the best sponsor portfolios in Europe has limited resources when compared to the top Yanks and Russkies.
This in itself makes it extremely difficult to attain parity with the Yanks and Russkies, all we can do is try and that's exactly what we are doing.
We will lose a lot of games on the way up, of that there is no doubt, but the guys on the team have no egos, no agendas, just a real yearning to learn and to play at the top.
Their talent is self-evident as you saw but it's one thing maybe having one of the fastest cars in the race but unless you drive it right, you ain't gonna win **** :)

PS Dammit Cook$, I thought I might have got away with it until I put my glasses on and read the small print (ain't that always the way).
Yeah, I had my Dye training suit on, you can't blame me mate, first opportunity I had to actually look like a coach until I got the heads up from Carol (Ledzy's better half) who came up to me half way thru the day and said, "Pete, ditch the suit, you good lookin *******".
Ok, she might not have said the latter part but I did take her advice and put my Dye jersey on instead and split the suit :)

A quick question for T.B.F.K.A.T.L that he might like to consider before calling our victory over Nexus a "giant killing".

Can you tell me which team were the overall winners of "Series 2002"? And this same team came 12th overall in the Millennium Am series rankings last year.

I think that relates to a lot of "Good days" as you put it. So maybe we aren't half bad after all.

By the way it was me who went on the K2 killing spree but only got 3 of them as someone else shot Flash as he tried to run through the middle. Next time I'll shoot all 7 and I might get player of the day:D

To Nexus, thanks for giving us a bloody good game. We all really enjoyed that one. You all deserve a lot of credit for coming along and playing. As all of us at Imperial know when setting up a team like we/you did you end up in a no win situation, if you lose you are all chumps(as you were expected to win) and if you win you are still chumps(coz you were expected to win). The fact that all the teams want to beat you is a sign of the respect teams have for you guys. In a way you are a bench mark to be measured against. It's a compliment and I think you are good for the game because you play hard but fair.

No we most definitely ain't and it's exactly that type of hype and bull that predisposes people against us as I'm sure you are well aware, especially when you wrote that post.
We may be aspiring to be, just like many other teams such as K2, Twisted, Imperial, Tigers and so on and we are just one of a bunch of serious minded teams that we now seem to have a few of over here.
If we can create a truly competitive environment with teams such as those mentioned where we can train together with no agendas other than trying to learn from each other and gain experience instead of all the bull**** and moaning we have generally gotten used to, then I think things look pretty good over here.
I was of the opinion I could get Nexus to the top without the need to train against other teams and to do it predominantly in-house, I have changed my mind to an extent and have already approached K2, Twisted, Tigers, Kelly's and a few more besides to try and get things rolling in that direction.
I have to say, I was pessimistic with regard to the UK scene and what people were doing but after having met and talked to a few peeps up in Uttoxeter, I believe there are some serious ballers around who will put in the commitment, hard work and dedication required to significantly improve.
So all credit, to K2, Twisted, Imperial and the like for realising what is needed and then having the bollocks to try and do it.
