That's because your "Evil Impulse" was the fastest machine gun we have ever even seen. Rumor going around is that Evil will be producing an Impulse now after everyone saw yours in HB.

My field was doing spot checks for certain infractions throughout the tournament. We checked at least half-a-dozen guns for bounce, caught two players wearing multiple layers (one guy had three jerseys on - bit chilly? ;) ), checking hoppers for the one sticker per side rule, etc. We didn't catch everything, like the masks, but hopefully it made teams aware that they won't be able to get away with as much cr*p in the future.

At least I hope they realize that :D

I'm still not convinced that the mask in question was altered. Looking at it , it seems that he has old style side panels. Perhaps they were slapped on from the original Flex-7.

Not saying they were right in doing so, but please people give a guy a break here! Are we that vain that this will lead to the down fall of Paintball ??

I think not. :p

Took me a while to spot it, but there it is. Well spotted, anyway if you take a hit whilst shouting in a proteus, it can hit your tonsils. Someone really needs to look at that.
Just out of interest, what's the advantage in a cut down face plate? It's not much more of a profile than your face, and I'd have thought it was bouncier than your chin. Is it just the shouting thing?

Hmmm, if u look at the front of your Flex 7s it's pretty clear that the main bits of the face guard that would stick out beyond your normal jawline are the two bolts that fasten to the bottom of the ear protectors. If you draw a line down the contour running from above those screws, along the top of the lowest line of holes and back up the other side, the profile of the mask would be just that important bit smaller... (though it would expose more chin and neck).

Maybe my face is different in shape, but I think there's still a fair amount of plastic in front of my mouth, which would still affect shouting capability... front profile would be *my* reason for cutting it down... unless I knew Mark was on the scrutineering team :D

I would love to see them make an Evil Impulse. The I-Frame helps out a lot. But it never shot that fast till I put all the Evil stuff on it. The cool thing is that it is completely legal----no bounce. I think they did a great job in HB checking for inappropriate stuff. No complaints. Some of the reffing on the first day was a little suspect, but beyond that it was a great event.

Mike,
I don't know how technical you are but can you explain to me how the evil stuff made your impy faster?
What internals did you have in your impy before?

Cheers,

Paul.

Mark: Well, if we're nitpicking here, then you haven't mentioned the sticker on top of the hopper...not allowed. The Evil stickers on my barrel weren't commented on :) Yes, I believe the refs have alot going on and they worked hard to keep the games on time.
I did see one guy have to take off his extra layer.
Overall, I think the reffing was even handed. I did notice on the Raven field that when I bunkered someone (on two different games), they didn't even try to figure out who got hit first, they just pulled everyone who had a mark on them. This does reduce confusion, but it also encourages the guy getting bunkered to go ahead and take the late shot.
I think the announcer for the NPPL field could've announced the expected start times for the games...especially on Sunday when the refs took that lunch break with no lunch. It was crowded everywhere, even in the VIP area of the stands and I stood up there for what, 30 minutes to watch the next game (I was behind some of the Dynasty moms), thinking the next game was going to be in 5 minutes, and everyone was wondering the same thing I was. Oh well, I'll stop bellyaching now...I thought the sand would really bug me on the field, but it really only bothered me when I was walking around.
I was amused to listen to Swedish being spoken with the occasional english word like "Toys R Us" being thrown in :)
