come on mark
i had to look twice even when you told me what to look for.
Its not a perfect world and things will be missed no matter what
all things considering if that the worst thing missed then the marshalls are doing a bang up job

True but a BIG thing was made of the equipment checks and how it was being headed up by someone to ensure ALL aspects were covered....the mask is a MAJOR safety issue. Best calls on the field in the world don't make up for lax safety calls.

i dont see how about 1cm of mask can really make that much difference in how loud you are, when i shout with the flex down i can still be heard fine, and i know when i get hit in the flex it bends in a hits my face so it hurts a bit...so if he gets hit thats gonne cain!!!

And just in case you thought I was making it up...direct from the NPPL site...

I have gone through 3 days of hell (hot weather, badly informed players, etc for the last 5 years doing the judging and this is just one of a huge number of things you have to check for :))
Being able shout loud enough isn't the problem though that is often used as an excuse by the player ;)

good spot, noticing that instead of 2 lines of holes near the ear there is only 1.

eyes like yours should be in a millennium version of the scrutineers

In certain other sports, the "Pros" tend to play for the factory teams or at least are involved in the R&D process for equipment manufacturers, and therefore at least get equipment a season earlier, if not sometimes get equipment that never makes it past the trial stages.

Do the rules state that you must use "stock" equipment that is in mass production and widely available to the public?

Not trying to argue the case FOR cutting down his mask, but how would we know if this isn't the newest model being tried in preparation for release this summer? :D

The mask is cut, there's no way to argue that it is not. I owned one like that that I melted the bottom of so it looked perfect, but it was still illegal because it was cut.

If a ref noticed, good for him. They didn't, so let it go. I'd much rather they catch the guy with hits on him. Or not one for one me after a marked player lit me up. The small stuff is more than forgiveable.

That mask never left the factory like that, clean cut but still cut!

Mark, ffs, is that all u got?
I mean, u scoured thru God knows how many pics to find one small thing to criticise, God, just how sad are you ?
The whole edifice of scrutineering is bought tumbling down just because Mark from the Cougars has spotted one line the mask has been cut down.
Jeeeeez

Returning to reality

The scrutinizing process is gonna to be an ongoing process. The reality was there were truckloads of folks on site with varying jobs to do and those jobs were accomplished with varying degrees of success but there weren't a couple dozen junior scrutinizers rifling thru everyone's gear.
The point here isn't perfection in every element of the execution but the fact they are approaching the total event process so comprehensively. As time goes by they will have to make sure all those jobs are done right but that's no knock on what happened the first time out.

Pete--somebody has to obsess on these details. Just be glad it isn't you. ;)
