I think Beaker has hit the nail on the head there. This exact same issue came up at about this point in the 2007 season too... what's the chances of anything changing this time around?

I know the Millennium's argument is that they are helping teams by discouraging players from jumping ship mid-season, but the roster-lock rules seem to do more harm than good to me.

As I've always said, the aim of reducing sandbagging is admirable but the system as they've laid it down is too inflexible. What they have now helps nobody, and simply leads to lots of players who can't play and teams who can't field a full squad. Beaker's division lock rather than roster lock suggestion is the simplest and most effective solution.

I would like to see a "points" system, where a team gets a certain number of points to spend on players, which would allow a certain amount of flexibility in fielding players from different divisions, but it would be complex to administer and police, which pretty much rules it out unless a third party were contracted to do it (which inevitably would cost more money.)

Effectively a salary cap in paintball. Great in principle but like you said, expensive to enforce.

The Cynergy/Hurricanes/Kellys situations are the ones that we need to avoid. If you locked the Division then you can have any amount of last minute stand ins to enable teams to play and you avoid player stacking.

It's so simple you know it'll never happen.

As for locked leagues, that's a very long post I'll wait until next week to make :)

I think people need to be reminded why the roster lock was applied. Because we bitched and moaned about all the ringers in the divisions. However, there are more yanks in the league then before, so guess it didnt work.

Simple solution, Mill joins APPA, and then all americans will have to find teams in the division they belong. Personally I dont mind americans in whatever division they want to play, just have to step up my own game.

As for the series, imo they should apply the PSP format 100%. Open divisions, incl game rules, points, number of prelim games.. etc etc, but i guess that will never happend.

I vote we have one massive division, and you ride your luck with what teams you get to play. Sort of like an organised deathmatch.

I also think teams should be forced to have cheerleaders.

Drop the lock altogether - at Div1 the whole "Pro-ringer" problem is much less than at CPL/SPL level and if you are playing that level (CPL/SPL), then you should be able to handle a couple of Yanks.

If ECI can beat down Dynasty (not the whole first squad, granted, but still an amazing achievement IMHO), then why should teams fear playing "better" players within teams - especially given the enormous commitment it takes to play an entire season these days.

Let's open the leagues back up a bit and get some US teams coming over to really push us again. (Current economic climate not withstanding).
