Virtual Refreshments

Sorry guys. I have been drunk for the past 24 hours:D Anyways, I want to pass out free virtual beers and free virtual cold pizza to all my pals out there in p8ntballer land. (That could be expensive)

Looks like Robbo has yet again won a battle of the wits against a worthy opponent. The play by play has been great from Buddha (damn good analyst).

Pete, have you ever actually lost a debate on here? I believe that you have had many battles that ended up in a KO by you.

Paintball flippin rules on and off the field!!!!

Yeah free beer

Pass some of that free beer over here .
I doubt robbo has lost any debate in these forums . THis ones a fairly good one though . My views based on whats been said is legions way better technically turks were better back in the day because the teams as a whole were worse . (i find paintball debates by old timers confusing) . Therefore quite obviously legion is out and out the better team as was said by robbo . If a team can smoke another team there obviously better .

Whoah there compadres, I ain't accepted defeat from lil ol Petey yet. And, since I inadvertantly let the Logic Bunny outta the box, I suppose I had better clarify my position rigorously, sooo...

My contention is thus:

Paintball has made giant strides, as Robbo himself agrees earlier in the thread, over the past few years.

The Legion, whilst I am not doubting their abilities, has had the chance to stand on the shoulders of giants and learn the game from what has gone on before. Plus, they are in a more competitive environment and have HAD to develop at a faster/greater rate...pball evolution.

The Turks had, as Robbo has agreed, a greater degree of success than the Legion has yet to attain.

You can only play the tournaments there are at the time and the teams that exist when you are playing.

Comparitively, the Turks did better than the Legion.

SO...

In their own environment, which neither team can step out of (unless they've found a way to break the space-time continuum...and I know the Turks tried thru drugs an booze) the Turks were BETTER.

Now, on Pete's definition, were you to put the two teams in a head-to-head match, or series of matches, the Legion would win.

And maybe they would. But as I have said before, their testing ground and the natural selection they have gone thru is waay tougher than the one the Turks experienced.

So I contend that Pete's definition of better is ultimately meaningless... cos by his rule, General Schwarzkopf leading his army to victory over Alexander the Great makes Schwarzkopf a better general.

In my view, Schwarzkopf got to learn and study from A Tha G and the like, learnt from what has gone before, and utilized it to his own advantage.

Over to you Robo...

Peace

Robbo

OK here we go with the final nail, The Legion may well have 'had' to develop the way they did but there are a myriad of other teams on the circuit who have had the same opportunity as them but not made the grade, this sets the Legion apart in not only contemporary terms but also overall.
Secondly, the Legion basically taught themselves, their melting pot of experience was none other than Russia itself (hardly the hotbed of paintball), they developed their techniques from reading PGI and particularly the articles I wrote (Sergei Leontiev's words not mine).
These guys are virtually self-taught with only infrequent outings to the Millennium as a test bed for their play.
So no giants in Russia to learn from that I can think of !!
In saying the Turks achieved more is a confusing and ultimately misleading statement because in real (absolute not relative) terms, I believe a finals place on a consistent basis in the Millennium far outweighs all of the Turks achievement if excellence of play and difficulty of attainment is a yardstick for determining who is better.

The space-time continuum has no need to be breached if we look for a second at the differing mentalities of the two sides.
The Turks were, sociable, drunken fun loving, totally unprofessional paintballers who never did a serious day's training in their lives, I think you would not contest one iota of that statement.
The Legion however are, serious, hard-working, sober, professional proballers who train their nuts off 3 times a week.
Just this piece of comparative information tells us all that no matter what era you select, the best generally comes from those who work hardest.

And so to the last piece of the nail, Schwarzkopf would indeed win the battle of the generals were he to come up against Alexander and his army but his victory would be because of his superior hardware, so no comparative analysis could be effected anyway.
The modern day clash of Legion and Turks has the same weaponry and therefore is a common denominator and not a differential as it would be in the one sided battle of Schwarzkopf and Alexander.
So that hypothetical scenario falls flat on its face with no erroneous inference being drawn because the fight would not have been fair due to hardware differences.

Hi!.......

Sorry to keep you guys waiting, been chatting up the girl that holds up the round signs.......

Anyway, for those that just joined us;
Robbo started out the match as his usual self, volatile! However, over the past round he has shown a side of his skills that we are somewhat unused to. Yes, he always backs up his arguments with knowledge, but there always used to be an element of brawl. It seems that to be able to deliver the knock out punch to his opponent, the quick and nimble TJ, Robbo has had to emply a lot more brain.
TJ is turning out to be quite an impressive antagonist (action figure to come soon....), everytime we think that Robbo's got him pinned, he somehow manages to strike back.

This is turning out to be quite a match, yes sirree......
