I should know better but I'm probably about to get controversial...
I honestly hope this will work out but I can't help thinking that the Rushers were already on the way to achieveing the ultimate X-ball team from the UK. Did they need to be split up and joined with others or did they just need an arse load of sponsorship to make it to the top?
I spoke to Mark Toye a while back and he pointed out that the Rushers were pretty much a team of front players so now some of the front guys were playing back and everyone was learning all positions... certainly everyone on the field for the Rushers can adapt and play different positions.
Sounds like an X-ball team huh?
I realise that the addition of certain other players (especially Jack Wood) can only be good for the team, but there is potentially an opportunity cost here.
We just lost the Banzai's. Which makes me feel sad. I still remember my first ever tourny 11 years ago where theywhooped us off the field
and we may be losing some of the Rushers who are quieter but also damn good players.
I'm hoping this is happening as a way to support the development of the Rushers core team with more sponsorship and a few additional key players. I also hope that Toye has a large influence on the development of the new team, because I think He has what is needed to move UK paintball forwards. In terms of insight and leadership.
Is Colby going to be in this new team? Judging from the way he played at Campaign I think he'd be a fantastic X-ball player, and he was certainly one of the most impressive front players I saw all weekend from ANY team. I know Sam was part of the team, but Colby was hot at Campaign.
It's a shame Nick will be moving onto other pastures.
