Return of the Political Thread

Was originally title, Return of the Grossly Inappropriate Political Thread but it ran out of characters after 'inappropriate' and I knew that would attract the wrong sort of potential poster . . .

The Soviets used tanks, the EU uses banks :)

Vladimir Bukovsky (one time leading Soviet dissident:
"For anyone even remotely familiar with the Soviet system, its similarity with the developing structures of the European Union, with its governing philosophy and "democracy deficit," its endemic corruption and bureaucratic ineptitude, is striking. For anyone who lived under the Soviet tyranny or its equivalents across the world, it is frightening. Once again we observe with growing horror the emergence of a Leviathan that we had hoped was dead and buried, a monster that destroyed scores of nations, impoverished millions, and devastated several generations before finally collapsing. Is it inevitable? Is the human race bent on self-destruction and doomed to repeat the same mistake time and again until it dies in misery? Or is the EU, indeed, simply a clone of the USSR imposed upon reluctant nations of Europe by the same political forces that created the first one?"

Germany are always good for a tussle.
Nice knee jerk response but you might note that A) Bukovsky isn't an American, B) I couldn't care less what y'all do to yourselves and C) he's is talking not about the construct of an external problem for others to deal with but an internal one.

Heck, I've long been in favor of pulling every US soldier out of Europe and junking NATO as a worthless relic. The EU isn't a threat, it's a drain on our resources and what Brussels chooses to do to you people is your problem.

If you don't like the topic pick your own. :p

I find this thread interesting. At first I thought it was a shameless diversionary tactic by the yanks to redirect attention from thier own collossal economic failings, but I hate the EU, I hate those pricks in Brussells and I hate politicians in general, so I would be less than surprised if the EU had 'gone commie'.
The irony of Baca Loco bringing up the Soviet theme is also not lost on me, its about time his pinko mates started getting re-organised.

The fact is, the Turks, the Portuguese, the French and the Italians were the only ones who ever stood to benefit from the EU, as thier economies were already fried and they got some free, and very large, handouts. The paddies did pretty well too. Even is Blair is about as effective as a chocolate fireguard, at least he kept the pound, although I think he tried just about every trick to fool us all into ditching it.

In a world where money talks, you have to say that the Euro is doing far better than the dollar at the moment, and if the gas prices in the US continue to rise after they stole 40% of the worlds oil production the yanks are going to have more than some European tossers to worry about. They will have unrest at home,

I thought the friendly fire thing was a low blow, but totally fair obviously.

One more thing, if the US were to pull every American Soldier out of Europe, what difference would it make? Economically some local businesses might suffer, but the yanks mainly supply thier own anyway, as all they eat is Pizza and burgers. House prices might drop, due to all the property coming available, thats good, what else? There would be more decent paintball fields open, dis-used bases are great for that. There are some lesbians and scruffy looking tree-huggers who would have to get a job, can't think of anything else. Europe already has enough weapons to destroy the world, in fact we have enough just in the UK. We don't need protection. Thats a red herring.

We could promise to continue to let you use the SAS and RAF for all the tricky or dangerous stuff, and to continue to train your Seals and 'elite' fighting forces, if you promise to pull out, hows that?

I don't see much of a connection between the EU and Nato though, so its not likely, but the yanks need the money big-time, so anythings possible.

Well done, ITN.
You're the only one to come close to addressing the thread starter.
Count on Steve-O for the blame America first hand-wringing mea culpa and the rest for a very poorly accomplished if typically smug assortment of replies. Is it any wonder the sheep will soon be bleating Brussels' tune? :D
