Question to the workshy fops on the board

It comes to that time of my life when I pack up, leave home and start intaking much alcohol, no sorry, I mean working towards getting a degree ;)

Basically mid september im off to Nottingham Trent Uni to start a course in civil engineering. I'll be staying in halls and have been wondering what to do with my 'balling equipment.
Firstly i'd like to know whether any of you have encountered problems with keeping you stuff at your place, or whether you just left it all at home. I know space will be very limited at my accomodation, plus theres the fact that I would probably have to insure it all, costing a fair bit.
Im leaning to leaving it all at home for a couple of reasons. The space available, better security and also I would probably have to go back down to Birmingham in order to get lifts to training/tournaments (im car-less at the moment), however this would mean no chance to practice simple things like we all do infront of the mirror or TV.
Another thing would be me wanting to go to Nottingham Skirmish if I had chance as I know there are training sessions fairly often, so would want my kit easily available.

Just after your views/circumstances and what you have done in your situations.
Cheers :)

I would also be interested about what all you current
uni types have to say on this as Im off to Durham in October.

Previously hadn't thought twice about taking all my kit with
me but mike does raise a few good points and now has me
wondering what to do.

Security at Uni halls is ****e, the only company who will insure you is Endsleigh, who have a maximum amount of cover (it ain't enough for 'balling equipment) and tbh, you're gonna have a lot more interesting things to do in your first year at Uni than sit in front of a telly and dry firing your marker... ;)

If you have to take stuff with you, NEVER leave anything out in plain view (from windows or otherwise) and NEVER leave anything locked in a car in a Uni car park. Theives know exactly where Uni students live, that it's their first time away from home, and for the majority, have taken every item of home comfort from their parents' houses with them... :(

I probably depends on which Uni you go to and the actual halls you stay in. At Plymouth the security was pretty damn good in my halls, you had to get thru 3 huge ass doors before you even got into my flat... I felt pretty secure leaving all my kit there.
There was a policy of no air guns in halls, but if you didn't tell them about it they didn't know, I don't think I ever had a inspection, and if I did it would have been very simple to explain that without any air the marker ain't gonna do anything to anyone.
Endsleigh are your best bet for insurance and from what I remember last year their rates aren't so bad and I "think" you can get big items like paintball equipment put on their especially for a tiny bit extra... don't quote me on that tho.
If you end up living on the ground floor (although being a bonus for stumbling in drunk) remember to keep your windows shut ALL the time unless you are in the room because friends of mine have had radios etc stolen by passers by... it happens, but if you are on a floor above ground level you are fairly safe :)
As QP said, don't make the same mistake as me, never leave anything in a uni car park  £2000 later I won't be making that mistake again!

Best piece of advice I can give you is go forth and drink! :p
