I've been personally working on a homebrew GBA (GameBoy Advance) paintball game for some time, but offical uni games work has kinda pushed it to the side lines. I dont want to release it until it is in a good enuff state to do the sport justice.
I know for a fact that at the start of last year the NXL and its franchises were in negociations with games companies about selling rights for the production of a pball game of XBall. In my opinion XBall would be the only format worth bothering about for the application of rules for a computer/video game.
I just hope to god that who ever is currently working on pball games (i bet there is more than one) choses to do it properly. Personally i hope for gods sake they dont try and do it in a first person perspective. The sense of imersion would be good but it just wouldnt work for so many reasons. As well as the game design document (big fat lump of wiritng explaining all the details of a proposed game concept) i produced for the gba i also put a document together explaining a next gen (PS2, XBox & GameCube) version. I wish i had the resources (money for licenses and devlopment equipment) to actually make it.
The only intresting computerised concept of pball i have seen so far was on demonstration at the WDP stand at campaign last year. If anyone saw it they will know what im talking about, it was rather impressive and if a 'game' process was applied to the mechanics on display then my idea of a perfect pball video game could be realised.
It will be intresting to see what the companies produce, i just hope they wont suck as much as i expect them to.
