Dear Robbo

Respect man but...

Whats with publishing an article just on one person 'Joeshmoe' nothing against the people that are in it just that people here have quoted that they thay cant publish stuff just on any little ole tourny, well you guys seem to print something about just one person.
I am sure that this person and a few of his buddies will buy the mag just for this but is it worth it when you could print something worthwhile like a tourny report when lots of people might buy it to read up on the touny they just played or perhaps seeing themselves in your cool mag.

Buddy

y'all are missing the point again...them boys publish what they think us folks want to read, they don't say 'hey, a 1000 people played the world cup so if we run a piece on it, them and their buddies will buy it.' THey say 'Hey, world cup, biggest goddamn tournament on the planet with the best teams - we have to cover that.'

And in the same way rec play is a broad ol' church - and how do you cater to the rec guys? you can't write about a walk-on day, so you write about the people...it's human interest stuff. They ain't thinking, 'hmm Joe Schmoe and his family will buy this - darn, we sell an extra 10 copies', they're thinking 'hmm, rec is a huge deal - how can we give the rec guys something they can relate to an' enjoy'?

Leastwise I think they are...damn, all this typing's making me hungry for a mess o' grits...

Yee-Haw!

Darm, I think you mistake the purpose of the Joe Schmoe article. It isn't there for the glory of the individual but to give some of the hundreds of thousands of rec-ballers out there a look at other "typical" recballers & how people do stuff in their part of the sport.

We have articles about & interviews with top tourney players every month without fail, yet tournament players are a tiny minority in the world of paintball. There are many more tournament related news items than recball related.

I know all the arguments about tournament ball being the "elite" (please note the quote marks there, not particularly my view Tyger!) form of paintball but the kit we use is light years away from much of the recball kit so they need something showing what is & isn't used out there by real people.

Yes, doubt if there's anyone more real than you but you are of course, a God of paintball to whose levels us mere mortals cannot aspire ;) ;) ;)

Seriously though Robbo, you are one of the best known tournament players and as such you aren't really a very good example of a typical recballer!:D

rancid

Mother, is that you?
I've said it before, and I'll say it again (and again and again), knock the tourny coverage on the head. It's a load of ****.... who gives a ****in monkey's about tournies?

Darm, can I ask you a couple of questions.

1) Are you a subscriber to pgi?
2) How many of your team are subscribers?

Just a bit of market research.

P8ntballer poll.....

everybody keeps saying about how there are far more recballers than tourney players, but how many of the recballers buy and read PGI?

there was a poll a while back on P8ntballer asking what type of paintball people played, last time i checked it was roughly a 50/50 split, tourney to rec. so what does that mean?

given that 98% of players are recballers and the rest tourney (as quoted by some people) to have a 50/50 split shows that a maximum of 2% of recballers actually come to this site assuming 100% of tourney players do. i'm guessing not every tourney player does come on here so that reduces the % of rec players here too.

what i'm trying to say is that it's all well and good saying the majority of paintball players play recball, but what do the majority of PGI's readers actually play?

if the answer to that is recball then fair enough, more tourney reports are probably a bad thing for PGI as a whole, however if the majority of subscribers/readers are tourney players it makes the whole Joe Schmoe thing a bit pointless.

okay i'm ready for my argument to be shot down in flames, so go ahead guys.........:p
