The big issue here is not that he have shot the girl with a paintball marker, but that he have reconstructed it into a lethal weapon.

If the politicians hears about it it could easily become a hysterical media circus.

Maybe the swedish paintball federation should make an official statement to condem this action, much like Brass Eagle did in the "hunting for bambi" case.

Allan,

This is a very good suggestion. As a board member of SPBF I will propose that we formulate a statement and send to the Malmö police department.

I wonder if a press release about our condemnation of this action would cause more publicity or would help?

Thanks.:)

IIRC, in the early 90s, the UKPSF was heavily involved in stoppnig the UK government from banning paintball guns by re-classifying them as firearms, that would have meant having to have a firearms certificate just to own a paintball gun (forget tourneys - that'd be punter-ball gone too!).

It turned out that a government department wanted them banned on the grounds that they (or someone in a lab somewhere) had successfully managed to fire a modified hypodermic syringe out of a paintball gun, thereby rendering it lethal.

They argued that anyone could do this and therefore the guns should be re-classified as firearms requiring a firearms certificate just to own one.

Thankfully the UKPSF were successful at convincing them that this was not as big an issue as the government department was tring to make out.

But now some pillock actually goes and does it! I don't think it would take much of a media storm to convince them to re-think on their final decision.

Unbelievable!

unfortunatly its all too easy to turn a marker into a weapon....but to go randomly shooting at people if just crazy!

99% of the public already think we are commando wannabes who run around in forests with pretend machine guns without prats like this making it worse

This is something we need to be careful about and that I am a little reluctant to discuss in case we open a can of worms we can't close.

We should condemn the action but not bring attention to normal paintball equipment if possible. It won't be an easy letter to write and shouldn't be done without huge consideration in my opinion.

In my opinion, if someone modifies a gun to shoot something other than the intended paintballs they are creating a 'lethal weapon' and should be penalised for it. It's no longer a paintball gun. In some countries it would very definitely become a lethal firearm with huge penalties attached.

If I make a zip gun out of a key, is it still a key I use to shoot someone? nope, it's a lethal fire arm.

If I use a pen to make a lethal dart gun, is it still a pen? Not in my eyes.

Throw the book at this idiot for making a lethal weapon.

As pointed out though, it's not hard for someone to abuse a paintball gun :(

I agree with manike!!
Idiots like that 19 year old man are giving paintball a terrible name and some could get the sport banned if more dumbasses find another way to ruin the sport we love so much!!!!

But how could we stop it??????
MAYBE make licenses that can somehow be issued to paintballers and only a person who has a license, to show, can buy/have a paintball gun ! But then you'd get 'fake' ones!!!

How could we stop it

IDEAS PLEASE

Yeah but by him HAVING to result in making a weapon out of something else than a paintball gun it does'nt give the sport a bad name! I know it doesn't help the girl but we're getting somewhere!!!
