17-year-old shot with a dart in throat by neighbor
MALMÖ, Sweden
A 19-year-old man constructed a deadly weapon out of a blow-dart pipe and a paintball rifle.
He then fired off a ten centimeter long dart that went into the throat of a 17-year-old neighbor girl.
“The shot could have just as easlily been lethal,” said police detective Magnus Andersson of the Malmö police department.
The 17-year-old girl was shot while she stood on her balcony. Suddenly she felt something on the right side of her throat. When she instinctively raised her hand up to her neck she felt a dart stuck in her throat.
The dart was 10 cm
She was rushed to the hospital by ambulance where the dart—10 cm long and resembling an injection-needle with fins—was removed.
Just before the girl was shot she saw a movement in a window opposite her. When the police raided the man’s apartment they found the blow-dart apparatus and a paintball rifle.
Turned himself in
The 19-year-old man who lives in the room had disappeared when the police arrived and was sought after.
Yesterday evening he turned himself in to the police and confessed to shooting the dart. The 19-year-old is accused of serious assault. The blow-dart pipe and the paintball rifle are now at the police department’s forensic laboratory for investigation.
“I have never before heard that a paintball rifle could be reconstructed into a dangerous weapon.” said the chief of forensics, Kjell Henriksson.
