If anyone does approach red bull, introduce them to the sport as "xball" rather than paintball, push the extremity of it and how the naming and sponsoring would tie together nicely with their brand, using "X Fighters" (the plane slalom) as an example.

Although Red Bull X Ball might be a bit of a mouthful

If you do talk to Red Bull definitely talk to someone else like Monster or Relentless (who are owend by Coca-Cola BTW) too and make it known. If you only speak to just one of them and they're not interested your out of luck, but if one knows the other might be interested, that rivalry could be the difference between getting a high profile brand on board or not.

But yea, sounds like a great idea, be awesome if it can actually be pulled off :)

I'd approach a branding/marketing agency and see if they fancy making paintball cool. There can't be that many sports left for them to exploit. Someone will have a crack at it and they will advise you which brands are looking to sponsor stuff.

Guys, it sounds all well and good having a paintball festival next to the London eye, but it isn't a million miles away from staging a F1 Grand Prix in central London. My thoughts initially are "yeah that would be awesome" but when you start breaking it down and looking at organising an event like this, planning massively involves health and safety and i don't think that many health and safety officers would say that scaffold poles and 1 layer of netting would be substantial enough to protect bystanders passing by etc. I don't want to sound like a massive c*** putting a downer on it because it is an amazing idea.

Ainsley at CPPS has one of the best setups i have personally seen (not brown nosing but you gotta admit its pretty good) and even still the odd ball sneaks through, paint breaks on the netting and sprays quite a way, i mean could you imagine a Chelsea Pensioner cruising past the event and taking one to the grill? Its got law suit written all over it. (yeah i have quite an imagination ha!)

On the other hand, getting Red Bull / Monster etc. involved in my opinion would be one of your first ports of call as they have specialist teams that plan events down to the finest detail and they would end up researching H+S aspects, contacting local authorities etc. and pretty much anything needed to make it an amazing event. The exposure to paintball in Europe would be insane and I'm all for it. Just a thought maybe check some of the ex-Olympic venues as substitutes?

Kit.

H&S would be covered in the planning stages by Risk Assessments etc, very often it's a give and take process, as long as they don't think they're dealing with some fly by night cowboys then they will be receptive to proposals.. H&S is all about mitigating risk, if it takes double thickness netting then that's what it takes.

It would be the biggest challenge admittedly but not insurmountable.

For example there have been golf driving ranges slap bang in the middle of London, lots of netting, problem solved.

If you can prove it's safe to the H&S officers, which wouldn't be difficult, then the next challenge is raising enough cash to cover the safety aspect. I think you're right though, standard event netting wouldn't cover it.

Presentation will be the key here. When it's taken to the Mayors office if it looks amateur it won't happen. If it looks pro it will be on the first step, then you get into the details. LMS is a professional and knows how to talk the talk (as far as i know).

I've just remembered I have a mate in the Mayors office who was involved in organising the events surrounding the olympics. LMS, drop me a pm and we can see if it's worth talking to him yet.
