Since TJ blew the big details.... some smaller details.

NXL and Open "merge". Dynasty will have to compete with everybody else for the Open prize money. That and DI remain XBall. DII and DIII XBall move to XLite, smaller roster limits and stop-clock matches with race-to-whatever scoring.

DII and DIII 5-man continues as "improved" 5-man; play each team more than once in a race-to format.

Young Guns is basic 5-man. All formats will allow coaching.

Events are LA/San Diego, Vegas, Texas, Chicago, Northeast, and Disney.

Or--
It could be a committment to providing the best possible Xball based league they can and competing for players, teams and support.

At a guess I would say all the "whipping it out" occurred at the now defunct talks and this is some part of the result. However you view the motivation it's likely to better for the Xball oriented teams, potentially interested teams and certainly for the Pro ranks.

And, I might add, this seems in contrast to your views in the thread next door regarding the general effort being made by the NPPL where your standard of acceptance is appearing to generally move in a positive direction and generally be responsive to the players for whatever reason. One could say that it appears the PSP is making the same efforts but your views on them aren't quite as generous. ;)

The change is a reflection of a change in organization which is directly based on the competitive atmosphere. PSP's problems can largely be traced to the "too many chiefs" problem. Nobody wanted to take the reigns, but nobody wanted to let anyone else take the reigns either.

As a result of the "industry nees one league" situation, and I honestly believe (and this is trivial, but emotional on the part of the involved parties) as a result of a "Man, these guys are beating us? We should be killing them!" emotional reaction to Miami coupled with a sense that the right changes could move a lot of people to the PSP camp at that point, a couple people stepped up to take the reigns and everybody else has agreed to pretty much get out of the way, leaving room for an actual course of action other than "Uh, try not to lose money".

Now, let's see if PP ups the ante in response. If so, everybody wins. (Well, not the promoters, but who cares about them, right? ;))

The Baby Jesus?

That aside, I think you're spot on and I think PP are going to face a lot stiffer competition next year.

Next thing is to see where the platinum sponsors jump...

...maybe not so much where they jump but how far they slip down the periodic table to gold and silver when their budgets for 2006 are reeled out.

Ok, excuse me if I haven't been paying enough attention...

but does this mean we will now have a choice between 1)PSP/NXl 2) PurePromotions/NPPL and 3)Millennium series?

3 series of events? Or did I miss something.

Last year many sponsors were complaining about how many events they had to attend and the costs. I heard rumours of many sponsorship and event budgets being cut due to the industry status.

I wonder how this will pan out. I don't think the events can get the same level of support this year as they did last year from inside the industry. (just my personal opinion BTW). We need less events or more outside $$$.

As is your annoying tendency, Simon, you is correct, I do believe, which makes chasing that outside money a necessity. And we all know what necessity is, don't we?

Or you need leagues that are willing to operate with fewer vendors.

What you'll see is vendors that pick and choose events - the larger ones like Cup or Chicago or HB, or the ones that happen to be geographically closer to them.
