Well...
The better officiating and venues is something absolutely necessary to bring the sport forward. We need these things, and if Chuck can bring them, this is excellent. There should never be another Vegas again, ever.
But we also need a different format. I'm sorry, but 50+ team tournaments once every 1.5 to 3 months held on multiple fields where games only last 10 minutes will *NEVER* get us to TV or serious corporate involvement. It is just way too confusing for the spectator. We need something like X Ball, and I, the college league, and you have a vested interest in seeing X Ball succeed.
There are two problems. One, you can't start playing paintball by playing X Ball. We are going to need to maintain 3, 5 and 7-man leagues to develop the talent for X Ball leagues. Two, we also need those leagues to finance X Ball. I don't mean by having other leagues subsidize X Ball, but having X Ball events in the same locations as regular events reduces costs to everyone and provides spectators, which increases your ability to attract both in- and out-of-industry sponsors.
Which leaves us with one very big problem: What if Chuck et. al. succeed at NPPL 7-man, and most of the players play that, and PSP et. al. succeed at X Ball? Now we've got the pay-to-play players (and best spectators) in one spot, with good officiating and venues; and the right format, X Ball, in another location, without the support of the average players necessary to secure good venues (and spectator support), at least in the short term.
Neither side has everything we need to get the job done. Both pieces of progress are good, but both pieces of progress done separately are not worth much.
