What can the NPPL do though? I doubt they can steal the format. There isn't much to do to this format except make games last multiple matches.
O.C.--call me suspicious. Why institute shorter games? Cus most don't go the limit anyway? What kind of answer is that? If most don't go the limit anyway then we don't really need to shorten game times, do we?
BroccoliDwarf wants to do it to force more action. Others claim it will improve scheduling, turnaround and troublesome acne. Seems to me the only real reason to do it is in order to cram more games into the same amount of available time. And if that is the case then promotors aren't so much interested in the tournament experience of the players as they are finding a way to get more teams and players into the same weekend length event.
Maybe it'll work out fine and no one will really care but as PB has changed the goals driving the most recent changes have had little or nothing to do directly with the players and it just gives me pause to wonder why is all.

And for what it's worth, whisper is that WDP is looking to replace Dynasty with two US Pro teams for next season...not that that has anything to do with this thread.

My bad.:p
Sorry, Teej. 2 U.S. teams? Hmm. Sent ball back to Mama by Fed Ex. Tell her thanks but I kept gettin' busy signals from the Great Beyond. She must have the hook up 'cus it was driving me crazy.

As long as we're thread-jacking---Can Mama tell me who got the word from on high in this past month's 10 Commandments from PGI? Worth the price of admission all by itself. (hint, hint)

Why break a habit?

As Nick said, I doubt that the likes of Nexus, Legion, and Ton Ton would settle for a Euro only event, when commotting to the NPPL would be a far more beneficial situation.

Baca- The leagues have to stay alive somehow. We all know that running the leagues isn't the most prosperous venture ever. With more money coming into the leagues, wont that lead to better quality events? I would expect it to and be disappointed if it didn't. Why critize them for it when it shouldn't play much of a role in games?

First to respond to Mark's suggestion a few posts ago about improved scheduling. Where does the lag in scheduling come from? It comes from down time between games. More games in the same time frame is actually likely to exacerbate the problem, not solve it.

O.C. --true. Bill Gates stealin' the orignal DOS operating platform is the "most prosperous venture ever" but so what?

Two years ago WC had close to 300 teams and ran the whole show in a cow pasture and declared penury as a result. This year they're at Disney putting on probably the best WC ever. What was the difference? Competition. My point is more money hardly means so-called better events and I think the players ought to consider carefully just what the results of proposed changes are likely to be. And at a minimum take enough interest to expect and ask for an explanation instead of being herded like a bunch of sheep.

For example, at Miami there was a big party held at very trendy Club Bed available by invitation only on Wednesday night before the tourney got going. From what I've heard it was sponsored by either Pure Promotions or the NPPL but the guest list didn't reach all the teams coming in for the event. Now nobody has ever responded to my original queries about the party, it's participants, it's sponsors, etc. but if in fact it occurred as I've outlined is that the sort of thing the average Nov or Rook player or team expects his entries to help pay for? Probably not. Nor does it matter to me in the least as long as the teams and players get an acceptable tournament but it does beg the question of just what the players are paying for.

Two years makes alot of difference. Public knowledge of the sport and participation has gone way up. They probably held it there because two years ago who would think they would be playing paintball at disney? I'm sure a reason for the price hike will be given or become evident eventually. It may be true that the money isn't going to the right places, and its certainly true that miami was most likely the most expensive tournament. From the NPPLs view the players party was just thanking thier long term customers, an insanely high amount novice and rookie teams only attend one or two events a year. And being honest, is anyone besides the players and maybe you going to care that the novice and rookie teams didn't get the guest list?

That's the point. The novice and rookie players/teams that only made 1 or 2 events are still the teams that made up the majority of the so-called league and their money paid or helped pay for a party they were'nt invited to. If the nppl isn't going to invite them or put them on the "list" why would they care what the little fish want to happen to the league, it's the big dogs(the paintball MINORITY) that get all the parties and the "super leagues" the majority pays for.

I have heard rumours that the difference in paint consumptiuon between the PSP events and the NPPL events is great. If 7 man is less profitable for industry, it seems likely that it will eventually go away, as a result of not being as profitable. I don't believe that major series promoters are going broke as a result of running their events, but if half the paint companies, for example, can't be bothered to show up in another year or two, it would be bad for players and the series that is losing industry support.

So, even if the shorter games mean less value for us in the short term, is it possible that by cramming in more teams, a series is insuring their future existence? The loss in value seems like a small sacrifice to maintain the series.

If someone from some paint company cares to contradict the rumours I have heard regarding dissappointing sales, I am eager to hear it. The trade presence at Miami seemed sort of thin. Is this a matter of allegiances, or is it a matter of profit?
