I had an absolutely spankingly good day, despite being beset by gun problems :D
We all had a few gripes, but I'm sure others will get into that before long.
Unfortuantely I had to leave before the prize giving/debrief, so I'd be obliged if someone would kindly tell me: Who won?
I'd be amazed if the South didn't take it, as the two nukes must have put us way in the league. ( Not to worry, Northerners, i took photos of the warheads, which I'll post up, as I know most of you never saw them :p )
Anyway, must get in the shower and get some food.
Thanks to all at Warped Sports, and thanks to all players who made this a great day!
See you all in the middle at BG2k3 :D

The result

The southern shady drinkers might have won on point due to the refs cheating for them by placingthe nukes close to there base.. But we out gunned them. At the end the northern army controlled 7/8th of the playing fields.

What was so bad?
Due to the number of players, and the narrowness of the field, and some dense cover & trenches, we spent most of our time in two skirmish lines, 50 feet apart from each other, sniping, long balling and snap shooting. There was no way to out-flank, sneak around or gain any advantage. This got a little tedious.
There were supposed to be warnings to the general when mercs or airstikes were inbound, but the marshalls didn't inform us.
There were problems with the number of armbands available to out-going troops, and the score marshall seemed confused about who could and couldn't have an armband. The CO2 fill tanks only opened at 9, and the guys manning them were a little lost. Only one chrono for 300 people to chrony over, at least initially. So, things could have been a little better planned, and the staff better informed. I would also have liked a source of drinking water, more food stalls, more trade stalls.
I still had fun, and I hope there are lessons learned so that other games go more smoothly.

You make some valid points Darkworks,in fact I agree with virtually everything you say,the water issue was a big prob.,not only drinking water but you couldn`t even wash you`re hands/masks etc.Airstrikes didn`t seem to run at all as the marshalls all had different approaches, but my biggest gripes are ,not to do down the Souths victory, having 1000 points on 2 items, no matter who gets them, completely knackers the points system ie. without the nukes on the field both sides had around 1400 each. I would have prefered to see smaller value items avaidable throughout the day as I think it might have helped the game flow a bit more ,it did get rather static as Cowface rightly says.My other gripe isn`t about the game organisation but about the majority of my team(North) as about 70% turned into back players, some were so far back they were in another bloody county,Blakey did the best he could but with so many lazy bast:eek:  ds on our side I`m suprised we even came 2nd ,myself and the other 30% ,people like the Keltic warriors,Yoda, The Pimps and others worked our bollocks off while the rest of our"team" sat at the back behind a nice big barricade long balling at trees.I hope the North get their fingers out next time.

Now I`ve got that off my chest it was a really good day well done to Paul and everybody at Warped the problems game wise were only teething problems and were easily outwheighed by the fun everybody had and well done to the South,we`ll see you next year.THE NORTH WILL RISE :D :D :D .

Although I am obviously disappointed with the result, I had a good day and thought the South thoroughly deserved their win.

Their play was much more coordinated and in your face when they had the numbers. I completely agree with Fleisher, the North seemed to only have about 20 to 30 front payers willing to have a go and the others didn't take to many coordination calls.

Jon Bonich played a master stroke in placing mercenaries outside the North base camp to slow us down just after lunch so the South could get the nukes. If I hadn't been immediately eliminated by my own team (shot in the back of the head - and no I wasn't running away) I would liked to have made a difference there. :D

All in all, a great day. Yes, some issues with the facilities, field and the scoring system (or at least being able to play to get the nukes back!) but this was the largest game in the UK ever, so there wasn't many precedents to help the guys from Warped and they did a hell of good job considering.

Best bit for me was watching my wife on her first PB day run screaming and firing at the mercenaries. She'll be back too!

See you there next year.
