yeh but thats part of the fun of having a ion, is upgrading it, if you get a dm6, theres nothing really much to upgrade. altho owning a dm6 is a better payoff in the end. but thats not the point for me really

-james
so you'd rather buy a low end marker...upgrade it to a middle low end marker for an extra 100 odd quid. then buy something which is top end then trick it out to make it a monster? i.e an ego with lucky board, hybrid eye covers/detents. grips. feedneck 15 degree mount. Freak barrell. ALU bolt pin and SSR...

well u got me there. honest

ion with 1,2,3,4 stage parts, with a lucky barrel set, a new on/off and a NDZ trigger about £200 quids worth of upgrades, with all the fun of fitting them and getting the know how for a noobie.

i'm not saying that a upgraded ion is on the same level as the DM6's/EGO's/ G7's, but there cheap to buy to start off with, and you can upgrade them as you get the cash.

After i upgrade my ion, i'll get a high end gat, and keep the ion for a backup.

its all about learning the sport to start off with, and the ion is a great place to start off with.

just my 2 cents

i understand your point but tbh with the 2nd hand market like it is there isnt much of a point.

buy it, shoot it, sell it. dont bother with ups. i havnt. no point most of the time

still the new ion has got some ready for you so mayb its time to find a new low end marker to mess with

also the shocker sft is only like 383 quid frm smart parts at the mo aint it? so really wouldnt it be worth getting that over an ion?

well not really, you get part of what im saying, but not all of it.

the whole point to me buying a ion, is to get the knowledge of teching/cleaning markers, without the little thing in the back of my mind saying, if you fugger up, its going to cost ya.

its not about the cost, its about the knowledge you gain from upgrading it part by part and understanding what each part can do for your game.

And one thing the ion has as a massive plus, is the amount of upgrades out there, upgrade parts for higher end markers seem harder to get hold of. (i may be wrong there tho)

only problem being that if you open up an ion then open up a ego or DM your gonna go.....oh crap....

but yes now i see what u mean. its a learning curve. the new ion doesnt take that mch away tho cos their just drop on bits really. unscrew some bits and put on

with most marker the upgrades are just drop on.

But as you upgrade each part, you can see what that part does for your game, i.e. trigger, i had the stock trigger on my ion, and shot a good few hoppers thro it, it wasnt bad, but i got a NDZ trigger, and OMG what a difference, its basically the dummy guide to walking the trigger.

by the way, ive owned a DM4, but sold it, and got a ion, because i didnt feel i could open it up and play with it. Now with the ion, thats not there, i do open it and clean it, and i dont have to worry about uber fuggering it up.

ion + £200 ups = a shocker at £380 new yes in terms of cost
the shocker is arguably the better marker

however the main point this kid is getting at is although in the end you spend the same money for essentially the same thing, he cant afford that end product all in one go.

its kinda like buying something on finance - you get the product, but you have to pay more for it in the long run and by that time its even less desirable.

for what its worth i think EGOs are far easier to tech than ions ;) !!

Ions shoot ok straight out the box. The only real problem with Ions is when cleaning them. You have to take them apart completely.
For a young or inexperienced player ,that is not completely familiar with how markers work, this can be very daunting.
With the Ion made out of cheap alloy, screwing/unscrewing can easily knacker the threads on both frame and screw if the right torque is not applied.
What they should have done to improve the Ion is to make the bolt more easily accessed through the back . would have made it easier on mantenance and more reliable.

yeh lovetone gets it, but i could go out tomorrow and get a Etek or simalar. but i'm waiting to see what comes out, and after crimbo i'll get something nice ;).

but for me atm, a ion is serving its purpose, how i play atm doesnt bother me, for me its just about getting to know the sport. then when i'm needing something to keep up with my game, i'll get one.

...It just makes me laugh when someone buys an Ion and then so many up's that it costs more than just buying an Ego/Angel/'Trix would have cost in the first place :D
Fair point Andy - but I know lots of ION owners who've gradually up'd their markers - thereby spreading the total cost of a matter of months - rather than try to save up over £500 and spend it all at once.

That way, they get something they can use now - rather than having to wait and wait and wait...

I know I've spent well over £300 on ups alone for my son's ION - but that is over 12 months - and he loves it - because it's personal to him (he decides what ups etc go on it).
