You need to find relatively cheap ways of improving your knowledge not only of paintball markers but of engineering and electronics in general.

If you see a bargain knackered gun on the classifieds then buy it and try and fix it, once you are familiar with that type of marker you could help out anyone who has a problem with that type of marker.

Remember there is a great deal of responsibility with teching someones beloved paint slinger. If you knacker someones gun you have to pay to fix it, regardless of whether that involves buying them a complete new gun.

You are also responsible for your own destiny, if you do a good job word will spread about what a good job you did, if you mess up everyone will know and people will be reluctant to hand over their guns to you.

Tom is a great example of word of mouth, Im sure he wont mind me saying he hasnt been paintball teching all that long, but he is already regarded on this forum as one of the best angel techs. Everyone I talk to who has had their gun serviced by Tom sings his praises.

This is due to his engineering knowledge and attention to detail.

Rather than posting every five mins or so...get your nose into the techroom, and keep it there...for a long time.....I always have my nose in the Techroom..at first, it was just to learn..no posting...reading...wondering, googleing, looking at other sites, to try and come up with an answer to any particlular problem.
Now, I'm able to help some people with problems, mainly with Cockers, tho by no means am I as good as say Jahlad.
I will say this...you need to be able to demonstrate abilities, paying attention to detail is one, a capacity for understanding is another...and a certain level of maturity.

Have fun...:D

I have to disagree that there's not a living to be made from 'tinkering'!
My other half, well two-thirds, Dangerous Brian, does very nicely from it and my full time job is fixing and servicing site markers and co2 cylinders/valves.
There's probably more regular work to be had with paintball games operators due to the large number of markers they have and the level of abuse they get ;) Starting with something simple like an Inferno will get you used to how a marker works and give you a basic knowledge of fault-finding.
Tell your site manager you're interested in learning how to fix the markers and ask him to arrange a teching day up at HO... see you then! :p
