That's a completely different case

Both sports are ancient, and the various disciplines are traditional and well known to all.

We are a new sport that need to present ourselves to a public that either knows nothing about us, or think we are about playing war in the woods..... and as such mixed messages is a really bad idea.

No probs. :) I'm sure I’m not the only one who's thought/said this, but all the same if this ever happens I want the credit! :p

Could someone clarify, is the M7 going to be centre flag, two flag or two buzzers? Surely best just to tie in with whatever the PSP are doing - Format unity and all. And same for the lower div single game 5-man.

And I still think M7 is a silly name (But then i don't like 'XBall' as a name either, so what do i know). Yes I know where the 7 comes from, but surely the number of players on the field is more pertinent a number than the maximum possible on the roster. Surely M5 would make more sense.

Ultimately a UPBF standard 5 man rule book would be good, with the same rules for both old-style single games, and multi-game matches. And once we have a standard that everyone is reading from hopefully we an work on decent reffing.

There will be a buzzer at each end

Few other things, ALL hits will become obvious. This includes hits on packs and pots. Any player playing with a hit on them, wherever it is will be 1-4-1'd. If the buzzer is sounded and the player has a hit on him, the point will be awarded to the other team regardless of bodies alive on field.

M7 cant be called M5 as thats the name of the lower entry league div 4. Which will only run on saturday and sunday at each event.

Its just a name, it doesnt really matter:)

I wondered when you'd ask me that;)

I think there are positives and negatives of this plan

Positives:

Refs job will be easier. No 'Did he feel it....did he not'.
If a player is hit, regardless of where it is, he should not be in the game anymore. It will eliminate the disadvantage of shooting someone and waiting for a ref to se it and pull the guy out.
It should reduce the number of people trying to cheat.

Negatives:

May be harsh on players hit on packs of clipped on the pot where they genuinely dont feel it.

---

As long as its standard across the board, I guess its fair.

Center buzzer would have been total in-your-face paintball :) But for all hits obvious, good rule. Most of the time players are aware if they are hit or need a check but act totally ignorant.

I think that the automatic penalties are a good way of reducing playing on, but I'm not sure about the point going to the other team if any players have hits on them at the end. It may result in a boring finish to most games where the teams pause to check each other over carefully before hitting the buzzer. And this could result in deliberate time wasting - 'we're just checking thoroughly' - in order to run the clock down. To counter this you might have a rule, like in x-ball, where the other team can conceed in to avoid the clock being run (hits their own buzzer perhaps). This would make it sensible to hit your own buzzer as soon as your last player is hit, in case you manage to catch them out and steal the point. That would just be silly, at the end of every point there is a scramble to check yourself over before your opposition conceeds. Then you have to decide whether if a player calls himself out before a ref gets to him he is excused or not.

Throwing in the towel is allowed

Hermitt, the name M7 is marketable, it relates directly to the game, and alludes to exactly the number of players needed for the game. I think its a good name.
