OK, no American leagues. Or any Olympic sports, you get one shot every 4 years there.

And I'm pretty sure World Cup is a tournament, no?

The reason for it is mainly money - leagues don't want things mostly decided mid-season, because then people stop watching. Playoffs mean every game counts, and thus every game is worth watching. (Although in some sports, we have best-of 5/best-of 7 series, but defintiely not best-of-season)

1. Exactly, the WC is a tournment, not a league.

National Professional Paintball LEAGUE
Millennium Series Paintball LEAGUE

Both of the above are leagues. Not just individual tournaments. Thats why every event counts.

2. I disagree entirely about this. Chelsea are 15 points ahead of the team in second place in the Premiership. Yet millions of people still tune in each week to watch. We have cup competitions for the knock out suspense.

And rather than the MS looking as if they would be admitting they were second fiddle to the NPPL, if they were to compromise or facilitate teams then it would show that them in a good light. Taking care of the teams in the league would increase the loyalty teams have towards the league, and would show compasion rather than weakness.

Regarding Petes Idea, I cant really see why the team should see this as unfair? We would not get a average of or 4 "best" result as we dont have any more results. We would get the average of our results period. A huge difference.
From a sporting point of view, you are absolutely right... if you guys do not put a team in for Marseille with your "B" roster.... but I thought you said previously that you would do that?

Here's the thing... if you put in a team for Marseille, and that team just happens to do extremely well, why the "A squad" has a crappy event later in the season... what happens then?

You see what I mean?

If you are advocating you and Nexus not playing Marseille at all - and get average from the other 4 events as the Marseille result, then I agree it is not that big of a deal... especially as it puts MORE pressure on you guys to be consistent at the last 4 events.

But - where some may then have an issue, is that they might also "like" to go play Semi-Pro at the fist NPPL - and get average for Marseille..... and the MS would be in no position to deny that... and Marseille might end up with a CPL of 10 teams.

You see the problem?

I think the best solution is to just say ALL teams can trhow out their worst result, because that makes it even for everyone.

And you guys and Nexus can then get "whoever" to play for you in Marseille... there are plenty of players out there that would relish a crack at CPL paintball.

Not a perfect solution - I know - but the only one that is fair to everyone.

Pete: I completely agree with your stance.... It's just important that whatever solution is reached, benefits all.

Nick

Surprising as it may seem Chicago, the world of sport doesn't actually revolve around the US...there is whole new world outside that has significance you know mate.

Nick, I am having extensive talks behind the scenes with at least one reasonable individual on the board, the other is an idiot and seems to see this as a Robbo v Millennium thing and not a 'right thing to do v wrong thing to do'.
However, here's my problem, if we have to put a bunch of guys in who are not Nexus players, firstly it creates problems that I have with contracts with Dye and PMI.
Nexus as a team identity are supported by these companies to the tune of six figures.
They have invested an awful lot of money in the name of Nexus.
Every player on my team is accountable to me, they know if they fcuk up they are gonna have to deal with me if they ever compromise or break any contractual requirements they have.
They obviously do not want to lose their spot and thus we get players who play for me who are responsible.
I tell them they cannot use designer cheat markers, they do not and so on..you get my point.

Now, if I let a bunch of guys go on that field and represent the name of Nexus ( and its sponsors) i have zero control of them while I am 6000 miles away.
If one guy gets caught with a designer gun cheat, if another maybe gets caught for assaulting a judge or wahtever...people ain't gonna be thinking , 'Oh that guy was a replacement anyway', the Nexus name is gonna be tarnished and there's not a damned thing I can do about that.
I leave myself open for this as soon as I allow my team to be represented by players who are not part of my squad and who are not bound by my contractual agreements.

Why the fcukin hell am I having to put my team's integrity and good name at risk just because some people make the wrong decision?

1. Maybe familiar sports too you as a swede: Soccer, hockey, handboll for instance.
None of those sports have a locked rooster after the first game/event.

Most of them have a locked rooster for a tournament (world cup, European championship etc)
And you have to fill in a rooster for each game. But none of those sports say anything about not bringing in new players during the season in the legues.
Most federations see new players and transfers as something positive creating a buzz around the sport.
Some of them have a transfer stop for the playoffs.

Fair point Pete,

Although its not ideal, how about entering a team of players yo know you can trust? Ex Nexus players maybe? I know your response will be 'Why should I have to', but its just a suggestion:)

Mark Toye, Jack Woods, Phil, Bowen, Junior, Biff,

Im sure they would represent Nexus well, in the 5 man M7.

:)

Now you're ust being silly. If your motivation is truly to have paintball be like other professional sports, trying to restict buying rosters is exactly what you DON'T want to do. If you want paintball to be like other BAR LEAGUE sports, then you might have a point.

Buying players is exactly what Pro sports do. You try to have the best team so you can make the most money to buy the best players to have the best team to make the most money. I can't think of ANY Pro sport that locks rosters for the first event, most of them it's about mid-season (as it is destructive to playoffs to having players hopping all over the place at that point).

The WHOLE POINT of professional sports is that you can *BUY* talent. If you couldn't there wouldn't be any pro athletes.

Your timing is suspect, and your claimed reason for wanting the change doesn't hold up.
I did not make myself clear, sorry,
Ok, I am not against buying talent, no problem, but I am against buying player whenever, it should be a transfer period/window, hence some kind of lock.

My timing is suspect? I voted for a sugestion, that were up for vote.

Haden't considered that Pete - And I get that point completely!

So - the problem are these:

- if you guys get to not play one event - should't it be the same for all other teams (i.e. 4 results counting)?

- if that is agreed upon, how will that affect the scheduling of the season, and making the prelim games fair?
