Michael Jackson dead?

Feel free to start all the threads you like on the sudan, or the palestinian plight between the hours of 6pm friday evening, and monday morning.
Or, of you dare to butt heads with the big brained people of this forum, put something up in the Brain Box.

Back on topic, what always pisses me off a little is that as soon as somebody is dead, he gets glorified to the point of severe overrating?

Some fun facts: Pretty much any big hit by MJ, was NOT written or produced by himself. His large solo hits are mostly Quincy Jones' work.
And him inventing that dancing style? Puh-leeeeeeeze. It's got JB written all over it. Even his trademark moonwalk was around way before he did it.
Yes, he could sing, yes he could dance. He was a good performer, but a poor songwriter and terrible producer. And guess who invented the title King of Pop... Yep, he did that himself.

So let's not make him to be more than he is, he already blew enough smoke up his own ass.

And I'm not convinced on him being innocent on the kiddy fiddling. Also not impressed with him "religion hopping" in a desperate attempt to get streetcred.

I never wished him any ill will, but I my day has been no better or worse by his passing.

Come to think of it I suppose it does, yes.
Like I said, I don't claim to be an authority.

Did JB get overrated when he died though?
I seem to remember he went out relatively quietly, except for reports of his aggression towards women.

Iran overthrew their last government, they know they can do it again.
They still beleive that enough ordinary people can make a difference.

An ideal that was snubbed out over here years ago.

So while they dont have democracy. Id say they are capable of a much superior form than ours.

Also In some places over 100% of the eligable voters turned out to vote.
If thats not a shining beacon of democracy I dont know what is..

Yeah hes as innnocent as OJ simpson.
If you dont count all the times he settled out of court.
It's an interesting argument, John. The process you describe led to the current government.....the government which now has a Stalinesque grip on the country, control over all media and all freedoms. Your solution is to use that exact same method again to find another government? I dunno, the fact that people get shot in the face on peaceful protests, and beaten by extremist elements (who support the current regime and pretty much get a free pass at this) doesn’t lead me to the conclusion that the "overthrow the government with force" approach worked out great for everybody in the end. We'll have to agree to disagree on that. You are absolutely right that the current situation sucks in the UK, but the Iranians are hardly a model for success - the people have little chance of another uprising because this is a different government, supported by brutal fundamentalists.

I don't know MJ history - The major case I followed fairly closely as it was on TV all the time. I thought he settled out of court in (I count one?) previous case - he undoubtedly should have gone to court then too if he was truly innocent, yes. But that shows an error in judgement, it does not indicate that he wasn't innocent then too. As a lawyer myself (though not criminal) I personally do not feel that "he got away with it" in the 2004/2005 case. We're talking about an elite team of hand picked lawyers picking apart everything they could, day and night to bring his ass down. They went for the kill big time and if there was a shred of solid evidence they would have nailed him. They failed because, when distilled down, the whole thing was based on some trailer trash kid and his criminal-record mother lying for their own ends. They had poor character whereas other kids could only say positive things about Jackson.

As Missy has already covered, the guy is still legendary in spite of his troubles. So RIP MJ.

Might have something to do with JB not being relevant in contemporary pop culture anymore. The man was old...
But I guarantee you, there are circles in the music bizz in which has passing was very much felt.

If only because the lawsuits stopped. :D

I hear what you are saying with song writers Buddha - but think many of the "stars" haven't alway's written their "own" music. Elvis didnt for one  - but we remember Elvis for HIS music (and according to my wife, his looks and hips!) Like Elvis, most people (of cough cough 30 cough cough) or above know many "Elvis" song lyrics, as well as Jacko's. You have to admit he was one hell of a performer!

Off topic - What will people say when Madonna snuffs it?
